The most difficult part was memorizing 2 diffent sets of vocabulary words, approximately 100 total, when no word bank is given. Lectures are very boring.

He's an extremely nice guy. That being said, he is also incredibly difficult. He tends to get lost in his own little world, he whispers a lot, and he's the hardest grader I've had here at IWU yet. You can never be quite sure what he's looking for on tests and papers. I also found it difficult to stay awake in his class.

He is a nice professor who knows his subject well and tries his best to convey it. Not always the clearest, but sociology is not the most precise field of study to begin with. Work is simple - just do what he asks: keep up with the readings and study for the exams and you will be fine.

Kind of scatterbrained and hard to follow. It's an easy class if you keep up with the reading, but also very boring. He's a really nice guy though. He'll try to help and clarify, but he doesn't do a very good job of it.

He seems like a nice guy but that changes when ur not w/him face2face. He told me I was a wonderful writer for 20 minutes & even called other professors & told them I was a great writer, then gave me a D on my paper & said it screamed inadequacy on every page. He's very unclear on what he wants on papers & u have to guess at what he really wants

Prendergast is incredibly intelligent and helpful. He really knows his stuff and will go out of his way to accomodate you outside of class. He loves teaching and discussing theory, and while the material is sometimes boring and difficult, he does a great job of teaching it...take good notes!

Comment:
The stuff he talks about doesn't make any sense, and he goes off on tangents a lot. He likes participaters, but watch out because even if you do participate everyday, he may still not give you participation credit. Plus, even reading the stories and attending all the classes won't help your grade.

He is willing to work with students individually which is hard to find at this level. He loves theory and discussion with him out side of class is amazing. His lectures can be dry but he does a great job of explaining theory which can be hard to comprehend. Overall we are lucky to have him at IWU.

Don't take for gateway. He forces you to learn sociology even though it has nothing to do with the course. Is over critical when it comes to writing, and is a generally boring man.
