CURVES GENEROUSLY! He made average A- so most ended up with A's. Overall easiest class out of the 3 Pchem classes. Just review his notes for the tests as he tests on concepts!

His class isn't so difficult but if you don't study it's hard. Also, you don't really have to go to lecture since the lectures are online and are really not helpful. It's a lot of self studying so it was pretty difficult as my first ever class freshman year. Since the class isn't too crazy the curve is pretty bad so don't rely on the curve.

Freshmen, if you came from a hs that had a good chem curriculum take this class. If you didn't you might want to reconsider. In all honesty, Martens is a horrible professor. I did much better and learned much more in Arasasingham's class for Chem 1B. The curve is not in your favor for this class. Too many do well and they can't give that many A's.

He is a nice professor. He cracks a few jokes or two to lighten the lecture. However, I felt I did not learn from his lectures. I did a lot of self-studying from his lecture slides and visited office hours. He is very helpful during office hours and makes it clear what he is looking for in his exams.

If you know chemistry already then take him, he is an easy A. But if you're like me and struggled with chem since high school then don't take him. His lectures are long and boring, so be prepared to read the textbook and do practice problems on your own. His tests were easy so the curve was not that big. His class was not for me.

He is a really nice professor, but he is not so good at teaching. Midterms were fairly easy and the average was pretty high too. Still put some effort to study and you will get a good grade.

Martens is a very nice professor. However, his lectures are super long and boring, and he goes off tangent in class. Be prepared to study and work on a bunch of practice problems on your own. I find chem discussions class more helpful. His exams are fairly easy if you just cover his study guide. But because his exams are easy, he doesn't curve much

Don't take him. Sure, he's "easy" and nice but you don't learn ANYTHING. You're better off taking Arasasingham, who's more difficult but actually TEACHES his students. Martens sucks at lecturing and is of no help. He never responds to emails and at the beginning of the quarter, he told the class there'd be a curve. Yeah, no. Nothing.

His class is easy but his lectures are completely useless. If you already know chem or are good at teaching yourself take him, otherwise avoid his class. If you do take his class you don't have to go to lectures, just read the book and if there is something you don't understand either go to discussion or office hours.

Daddy Craig is such a nice guy! He's a terrible professor, however, but he makes up for it by being such a kindhearted guy. There are three tests in the quarter, 2 midterms and 1 final. First midterm is 15%, second was 35% and the final was 45% of the grade. He assigns mastering chemistry work but its not a lot.

his lectures may be boring and he likes to go off tangent on certain topics, but his tests are easy and straightforward. The online hw he gives is harder than his tests LOL After the first midterm, I started skipping lectures and just did his hw and practice exams bc his class was that easy! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN INCOMING CHEM1A PEEPS HES SUPER NICE!

Although he is not the best lecturer, Professor Martens is a pretty chill and funny guy. He has very straightforward non-cumulative midterms. He provides practice midterms that mirror the test and a study sheet with all the concepts you need to know. So, just study the provided review material and you will easily get an A.

You won't do well in this class if you don't teach yourself the material. Professor Martens isn't a very good lecturer. Although he is a very kind person. Read the book and take your own notes. Lecture is not helpful at all and isn't necessary (TRUST ME!). If you can keep up by yourself, then take him. Midterms are easy and not cumulative.

Easy tests and very light load of homework. Lectures are boring, you could skip them and still do well in the class. He's funny and very easy going. I almost switched out of this class because the first couple weeks' material was hard, but we weren't tested on it and it got much easier. Take this class, he's the easiest chem 1A professor.

Prof. Martens is a chill and easy guy. His lectures are long and somewhat boring since he bases them off of his slides. I can barely hear his voice so I don't really pay attention during class but discussions are helpful. 1st midterm is fair but his 2nd midterm and final are easy. Exams are 90% like his practice questions so you are good!

Martens made the class seem very easy by saying that he rounds up student's grades at the end if he sees improvement throughout and that there would be a curve. There are two midterms and one final that is worth 55% of the grade. His lectures are so boring - he mumbles and reads off slides. After seeing my grade, there doesn't seem to be a curve...

Prof. Martens is one of the easiest professors I've had at UCI. His midterm is 95% similar to his sample final, which he posts on his website. He's helpful and if you think the TA's screwed up grading your paper, just email him and he'll figure it and help you out! EASY A!! TAKE HIM!! and btw don't buy the textbook!
