Really clear lectures that are very helpful for the lab. If you go to class, you will be fine. The textbook (he wrote!) is very helpful as well for the prelabs. This is a challenging course, but he is so clear and helpful. If you go to office hours he will help you understand whatever you need help with.

I really enjoyed his course and I have only good things to say about him. The man can teach! His tests are somewhat difficult, but very fair and straightforward if you pay attention in class and get help if you don't understand something. Like all good things in life, you will have to work for it, but he prepares you to think like a scientist.

Palleros is awesome when lecturing, and is very clear and concise with his notes. He even adds in a little bit of humor which lightens the mood- especially in a tough course like OChem. However, he is completely unapproachable in office hours which really surprised me. Was hostile, rude, and seemed to be irritated. Did not seem willing to help.

Palleros is awesome! His notes are very detailed, and what is on his notes is what is on the test. He's very helpful in office hours, and wants to see his students succeed. His tests are similar to the practice ones, but of course you need to also study your notes. I highly recommend Ochem with Palleros!

One of my favorite teachers ever. He's funny and clear, and and sincerely cares about his students and how they do. The reason I am taking 109 now is because he is teaching it, also its interesting, but mostly cuz Palleros.

Palleros is funny and interesting and his lectures are clear/ easy to follow and his tests are incredibly fair. This is not to say this course is easy though: O CHEM IS VERY DIFFICULT!!! But Palleros makes it bearable. Biggest tip is to do your homeworks thoroughly and understand them- dont just copy from the manual!

A cute professor who is willing to answer your questions. His final was actually pretty easy. Make sure to take a look at the practice exams to know what the final would look like. Lab report grades differ from your TAs.

He doesn't really curve. This class was tough because there were a lot of memorization. He was kind of clear during lecture, but he doesn't tell you in detailed on what is going to be on the exam. You pretty much have to memorize all of the stuff from his lectures.

I completely disagree with the person below me. Palleros is a great professor. Im also wondering how he or she knows what they got on the final if we haven't gotten it back yet. Anyway, I found him to be very straight forward. His practice exams are good representations of his real tests. His office hours are packed, because he teaches 3 classes.

his tests are fair but hardly any curve. 2 midterms and 1 final. I scored average on the first, bellow average on the 2nd and average on the final but received a D. I went to office hours and it's one on one, not as a group. He was hostile, which is odd because he comes off very friendly/jokey in lecture. he's nice and organized in class. no curve

Holy Snap! i took this class and the Lab over the summer and it was brutal. The amount of work that you have to do to stay on top of things is a lot but god damn he's an AMAZING professor. AMAZING!!! Will do anything to help you and is crystal clear. You will NOT FIND a better professor. Only problem with taking it over the summer is that its fast.

Materials are crystal clear. Make sure to take good notes and learn the materials on a daily basis as you progress through the quarter (cramming at the end wont help you much). Apply yourself and you will do great!

Absolutely the best professor I have ever had. He is amazingly clear and organized during his lectures, he has a sense of humor. And he does not try to trick you on the test. His class alone persuaded me to transfer to UCSC instead of UCSB! He is just that great of a teacher!

One of the finest instructors on campus. His organization and structure of the class are crystal. The key to this class is review the materials regularly since you will definitely feel overwhelmed before exams if you are behind. His notes are wonderful. Exams are similar to the practice ones, pay attention to details.

Probably the greatest organic chemistry professor in the world. Very clear, very fair exams, and just makes going to class a pleasure. If you participate in his class he'll take a liking to you and even know your name! A wonderful professor, and a wonderful human being. He made spending my summer at UCSC worth every penny. However, you MUST study everyday. If you fall behind, you're as good as dead. I took both 108a and b in the summer and aced them both. If you apply yourself, you can too!

Took this during the summer and it was the toughest academic experience of my life. I LOVED having Palleros as a teacher. I usually never get chemistry and the way he taught made me understand. Now I love O-chem!! During the summer it does take a lot of time. Don't take it if you aren't willing to spend most weekdays in the library all day.

He is a really awesome professor. He knows how to entertain his students and keep his students interested in the subject while applying the concepts to biology very well. His homework, notes, and practice exams are the best way to understand the concepts even deeper. Go to section and office hours as a resource to further understand the class. FUN!

Made organic chemistry extremely fun. In lecture, he gives you all the answers for the prelabs, and there will be a quiz for bonus points every lecture where he literally gives you the answers to. I love Palleros and wished he was a Professor instead of a lecturer.. I would love to be in a research group led by him. Best instructor in all of UCSC!

Great lecturer. Really funny, prelab answers are mostly given in lecture. Actual lab times are long. Shortest lab I believe is 2 hours. Longest, all 4 hours. You gotta be fast and good in the lab to get out fast. Final is just like the practice exam.
