I took intro to political theory online. We had 12 discussion questions that got harder and harder as the weeks went on, 2 exams that were open-responses, and a final paper that needed to be 3000 words. Youre given material to read every week and answer the question on the discussion board. The class makes you think. The only negative is the paper

Professor Prentiss is a very positive guy. He is all about clarity and complete answers. No textbook, all readings are uploaded and required to be printed for class. His study questions for tests are exactly what he uses for the test, just requires thorough responses (4-8 sentences each). Very open minded and intelligent. TAKE HIS CLASS! Great man

I had him for political theory as a freshman. Honestly, at first I was scared but he turned out to be my favorite. He gives readings where you have to annotate and come to class prepared and he expects answers on tests to be thorough, but if you make outlines and study you'll be fine. I got 100 on his first test.

Even though I only had him for CAS, I think he's one of the best professors I've had so far. It's annoying because he will randomly call on people to put them on the spot, but if you raise your hand once in class he will basically leave you alone. Do his readings and you'll pass. He was very helpful and always answered my e-mails.

His class is difficult. if you're a freshman, dont take this professor just yet. All the test are short answer with specific answers. He is a great professor. if you talk to him,he will help you out. He is totally relatable and very understanding ( almost had to drop the class, either class or scholarship money. He went out of his way for me)

If you actually put the time and effort into this class you'll get a lot out of if it, and walk out with a decent grade. His tests are different, and really hard, but he drops the lowest one.

Passionate and very knowledgeable. Expects a lot out of students -- but it's refreshing to see this at UMD. This doesn't mean this class is impossible(or even really hard) but you have to put in a modest effort. The rewards are great.

Professor Prentiss is a fantastic professor. He is very clear and his lectures/discussions are enjoyable and informative. Also I'm not sure why there's no tamale next to his name because he's definitely the best looking PSC prof at UMD.

A great professor who will expect a lot of you come the end of the semester, a lot of reading and writing, but you learn a lot about analysis and political theory, study up on liberal education for the first day and you'll make his day.

He is a good teacher and fun to be in class with but good god he is a tough grader! I am no slacker. He needs to learn how to design tests. Other than that, a decent professor.

Nice guy, but his tests are hard. If you can take his advice and make an outline out of the notes, it helps. However, he doesn't quite give them in outline form. He'll tell you what needs to be on the tests, but you need to remember and know how to apply all concepts. Otherwise, it's somewhat interesting, and his humor is cool.

He is a really nice guy. I wash I had been a better student in his class. In all rights, I should have failed because the highest grade I could have gotten with the final should have only been a D- at best, but he gave me a D.

I absolutely loved this class and strongly recommend it. I learned ALOT and he made it very interesting to learn. The tests are a little hard so although there is no attendance policy, you should attend each class if you want to do well on the exams. Hes a great professor, wish there was more like him at UMass.

Good teacher, inspires good debates. I genuinely like going to this class (even at 8 a.m.) ...do the readings and volounteer your opinions and you'll do well. Also, take notes and listen carefully to things he repeats. Not a good class for people who just want to skim by, but if you are interested in politics definitly take the class!
