Decent person; boring class. 100+ pgs of reading /week. 3 quizzes (you get a list of potential topics ahead of time), a choice assignment (1 long paper, 2 short papers, or a vid project), and a final. Lectures were v boring. Only take if interested in Russia. That being said, he's very knowledgeable, understanding, and willing to give extensions

This class is best described in one word: AVOID! Sign up at your own risk. I despised going to class because his lectures were so unorganized and had nothing to do with the assigned readings (which are crazy long and unnecessary and which I gave up on after the first week).

Goldfrank's a weird dude. You won't really learn anything from this class. His lectures are rambly. That said, he clearly knows the topic. Twenty pages of textbook reading a class and some supplemental writings no one in the class looks at. Three quizzes, a video or 10-15 page paper, and a final. Class is real weird. Take with friends if interested

Super boring and very very unclear on what he expects but generally an easy grader. Do exactly what he asks and as if you have questions and you will do well.

Class with Goldfrank is an experience. First and foremost this man hates technology. Really despises it. Don't dream of bringing a laptop because he will yell. As a result, not a single student in the class will be taking notes. 25% of grade is attendance so show up. If the paper prompt says 4-6 pages, write 7. You'll get an A. Loves his students.

Ok so goldfrank is incredibly difficult to follow. He knows so much but doesn't know how to relate it to us. I'm still not sure what I was supposed to be learning, but i did learn was how to bs papers. He yells at u if u have electronics so just don't. While this class wasn't my favorite, it's easy and I think goldfrank really cares about students.

Make sure to read those extra documents assigned! Don't worry so much about the textbook except to learn terms for the quizzes, which he tells you in advance. If you don't use your computer, he'll like you a lot more. His powerpoints are oddly specific and generally not so important. Only one major paper.

One of the worst classes I've taken at Georgetown. He is rude, generally unhelpful and has very confusing assignments. Avoid at all costs.

I never really understood what I was supposed to be learning from the class. Goldfrank follows his powerpoints, but everything seemed unconnected for 2/3 of the course, so you HAVE to go to the discussions. But he's EXTREMELY helpful if you talk to him outside of class. We had 3 paper and if you wrote above a 10th grade level, you got an A.

Prof. Goldrank can be a difficult and really rude person to deal with at times. Don't get caught using technology in his class, you will get into a lot of trouble. His assignments can be confusing at times. Make sure you go over the page limit for papers though. He likes that because he feels that it shows you put more effort into them.

Comment:
You sincerely do not want Goldfrank as your professor for introduction to late world history. His lectures are rambling and focused more on anecdotes than coherent conveyance of the material. In addition, his papers and test questions are incomprehensible. I never had any idea what sort of response he wanted.

Professor Goldfrank is a really nice and smart guy who sometimes gets a little ahead of himself in lectures. However, if you do the h.w. (or at least skim the readings), talk in class and write your papers about something you're actually interested in you can get an A. Only had this guy for one semester, but he always makes a point to say hi!

Professor Goldfrank seems to be extremely intelligent. Unfortunately, however, he isn't able to pass this on to his students. He is extremely unorganized in his lectures and lecture notes, and complains about technology (computers specifically), in all his lectures. Overall, I only learned from readings and from the papers that he assigns.

Professor Goldfrank is brilliant, but he can't express what he knows in class well. He rambles about random topics and we're always catching up (i.e. learning material on which we were tested two weeks prior). There is tons of reading, but it's never discussed in class, and only on the final exam.

I took his introductory World History class and it was ridiculously difficult. None of the topics linked up with each other and overall I learned nothing. Worst class I've ever taken at Georgetown, hands down.

One of the best classes I've taken at Georgetown. Yes, it's an intensive class, and to get much out of it you need to be interested/dedicated. However, Prof. Goldfrank is an amazing resource and is more than willing to help you as much as you are willing to put into the class. Prof. really knows his material. Highly recommend.

This guy knows a ton about Russia, but he has no idea how to convey that knowledge logically to his students. He is actually really helpful and nice if you go to his office hours, but his classes are looooong and he takes attendance.

Extremely nice man, but doesn't know how to teach. He will go on rants about things that are completely irrelevant to the class, will sometimes negatively call students out in front of the class about papers, and can be very dull. If you can avoid, do so. If not, he's not a hard grader, and you can get by without always reading.
