Comment:

Took this as a gen ed class and it was an easy A. There are two essays which aren't hard at all to write, and two exams that aren't hard if you're following along in class. First half of the semester is definitely more interesting than the last half, beware of pop quizzes (he drops 1). Generally a funny guy, mostly interesting class.

This class is the epitome of an Easy A. Essays are easy and don't take too much time. Exams are pretty easy as well(also no final). The first half of this class is interesting, and the second is pretty boring. Beware that there are 4 pop quizzes during lecture. So be mindful if you skip class. Notes are also uploaded online to if you skip.

The most boring class I've ever taken. He's very unorganized and rushed every class. You won't be able to take all notes because he puts so much text on every slide, you'll go through an entire notebook of notes. TA's are not accessible. I would not recommend this class.

Prof Fertig is a wonderful and approachable professor. Class is taught exclusively in German, so don't be afraid to participate or go to office hours if you don't understand something. Workbook homework, two short papers, 4 exams, a cumulative final and simple oral examination at the end. You'll learn a lot and enjoy it if you really get involved.

His lectures are ok. Kinda boring but the material is simple. His power points contain all the info you need to pass the exam (which isn't hard) so you don't really need to go to class. You have to take a certain amount of pop quizzes so make sure you go sometimes. Papers weren't hard to write either.

Professor Fertig is great. He made a 400-level class surprisingly easy to do well in. Honestly, I never bought the required textbook, and I passed the mid-semester exam with flying colors, just because I paid attention in class and took notes. The subject can get a bit boring at times, but I still enjoyed Professor Fertig's teaching quite a bit.

Dr. Fertig is a great professor. He really knows how to teach. He tends to speak slowly and say "Um" a lot. But, overall, he's a great guy. Definitely recommend him for any class!

great blowoff class. midterm and final only. both are easy. gives quizes and pop quizes, i missed 6 and still got an A- in the class. Doesnt really teach as much as he tries to push his beliefs on you (verrrry liberal). so when you write your paper just feed him what he wants to hear and get your A. i went to this class 6 times all semester.

pretty cool guy, i like his wife alot too. easy class, collects homework right before the test. frequent tests so one bad one won't kill you. two essays, he's a very easy grader. nice guy, if you have problems will help you work through them.

His notes are online so you don't have to come to class, but it is def worth going because the way he presents the material makes it stick in your head. Don't overlook details in the notes- some tricky stuff is on the exams. I used the book maybe 10% of the semester, only because one of the 2 papers are based on chapters. GREAT gen ed class!! =]

An absolute charm! Whether you are taking German or Linguistics courses with him, you will be hard-pressed to find a nicer, more genuine professor. Passionate and very well versed in his own disciplines as well as many others. Prof. Fertig is a man to be admired, and four years of classes with him simply is not enough. Highly suggested!

one of the easiest classes ever, Fertig makes it really easy to understand. come to class because he gives a few pop quizzes, which are a joke because they're so easy, but study the notes for the test and you'll be fine. 2 written projects (EASY essays) and 2 tests. you need to have access to the book but you don't need to buy it. great gen ed.

really nice prof. LIN200 class is really easy, 2 papers, 2 exams and some quizes that are really easy, don't need to go to class since all the notes are online but his lectures are interesting and he sometimes shows funny clips and movies

VERY very easy class. 2 papers, very simple. Tests were fairly easy. Only used text for second written assignment. Class was super boring. Gave 4 unannounced quizzes that were basically common sense. Gave 7 quizzes, dropped 3. If you read your notes once, you couldn't help but get a perfect score. Class is very boring but don't need to go!

Best class ever. Really simple and straightfoward, hardly any assignments, Fertig is so cute and nice. I never read the textbook at all. Very interesting, and a great alternative to the pluralism requirement.
