Really good professor. Gives amazingly helpful writing advice in office hours. Plus, he takes the time to meet with every student (usually in the retreat/bridge) to discuss their writing and how they feel about the class. He cares so much about his students and what he teachers -- 100% would recommend his freshman writing seminar.

The most lovable name-dropper I've ever met! Class was always really fun and engaging. His feed back on papers was always amazing, he really knows a lot about writing.

David Means is amazing. He gives great editing feedback on short stories and will sharpen your instincts as a writer. Doesn't try to change a student's writing style, but pushes them to write more precisely and explore topics that interest them. Assigns fantastic readings and if a student recommends a reading he will often assign it.

If there were ever a hipster in the world, it would be this man. The biggest name dropper and drug talker, but also by far my most interesting class of the semester. His ideas are out there, and he wants yours to be just as creative. He cares a lot about his students, until they stop doing the reading. Don't take this class if you are straight-edge

Fantastic professor, great class. His feedback on my writing was consistently insightful. Great instincts as an editor. Really helped take each story to the next level and pushed me to experiment structurally. Sometimes a little awkward in class. If short stories are your thing, you owe it to yourself to take a composition class with him.

A great professor. Assigned fantastic reading- I encountered some of the best books I've read since coming here in his class. Class is laid-back. Discussions were occasionally strained, but it's great just listening to him talk. Really solid feedback on writing.

Really great professor. I am not an English major in fact I do not like analyzing literature but really glad I took his class. He made it interesting and exciting. He is a cool person and highly advise to take one of his classes especially if you are into creative writing.

I love him. He makes me want to be a better and more creative writer. He is ALL over the place (and yes, a big name dropper), but a hysterical, great, interesting, smart teacher and writer.

I agree w/ the last post. He's the most entertaining professor I've ever had and was extremely helpful w/ lectures and feedback. Unlike Gilman, his tangents were usually relevant to discussion. The first few weeks of class were intense, but later he gave more freedom. Great readings and assignments - highly recommended if you're into short stories!

Being in David Means' class is like watching a play or a movie... it's just ridiculously entertaining. Tangents are plentiful, but usually very insightful. His class was never boring รข€" a very fun and energetic professor. Also VERY smart. He seems to value all input as well, and is a fair grader. One of my better professors DEFINITELY.

What a horrible waste of time. Infuriating, selfish, vain. I didn't think people like this survived to adulthood. Uses class as a venue for his own preening. Thinks criticism of him is funny. Don't be fooled - he's never listening to you. He's only looking for his own reflection in your eyes.
