Super easy class with a great Professor. Inspirational, engaging, knowledgeable, and entertaining. You MUST attend class to be able to pass class as all material on tests are discussed in class. No textbooks, no readings. Just go to class and be present. Would take again.

One of the greatest professors I've had at Berkeley. I'm going to retake Music 128R for fun this summer. It's a super fun class, and very easy to get an A if you have good attendance, which makes sense, because the class is pointless if you don't go. I don't know why anyone would want to skip it. It's lots of fun listening to Milnes and the music.

This class was absolutely amazing. Professor Milnes is so passionate about Jazz, and the class is an easy A if you attend all the lectures. Milnes loves talking and sharing his passion with students, so if you show up to class and take an interest in the material, you're guaranteed to not only ace the class, but to leave feeling enlightened!

Great teacher. Probably one of the best I've had. He really loves jazz and just wants you to experience it. He really doesn't care about the tests and the paper, so do not stress out about them. Great summer class, got an A+. Take it, you won't regret it!

I'm a grad student at Cal, and I took his jazz history class over the summer just for fun. It was hands down one of the best classes I've had in four years at Cal! David Milnes is passionate about jazz and passionate about teaching. Great guy, great class.

Orchestra! I think Milnes is great. He's picky about everything and that's really great. He doesn't ignore any member in the orchestra. I think he really cares about the orchestra and the fact that he runs rehearsals late is understandable. If you get angry over an extra 10 min of rehearsal, you're obviously not passionate about it.

Do yourself a favor and take his summer class on jazz! Milnes is actually enthusiastic about TEACHING jazz history. No empty academic books or hard tests. It's all about experiencing the music. He is quite witty and sarcastic and easy to approach. The most relaxed class I've taken in cal! Easy A + you learn a ton. Can you ask for more?

This guy is really full of himself, and he talks to most students like they're idiots. BUT he is very good at conducting. Just learn what comments to take seriously and which ones to ignore. A real pain in the ***, but hey, isn't that part of being a conductor?
