Comment:
David Payne is a really smart guy, has his own opinions, but encourages his students to voice their own and back them up. Even if he disagrees with you, he still keeps an open mind. His lectures can get a little boring sometimes, but his examples and hypotheticals can be quite interesting. The homework is easy as long as you give detailed responses

Great Professor, but need to be weary on taking him. If you are offended easily don't take him, he's very blunt and doesn't care if you think he's wrong, unless you give a valid argument. Likes debating, doesn't like slackers.

At first I didn't care for Prof. Payne, but he is one of the most real teachers I have ever met! He is really a genius, and makes you become a deep thinker. I don't necessarily agree with his grading scale, however, the content of his class is worth it.

The tests and quizzes are really open. An assignment could be to read Iliad books 1 and 4, and you will be asked only a couple questions about them. There is a lot of homework with long readings. I do not recommend this professor if you have children or a "life", because you won't have time for the work.

Absolutely terrible. He has a monopoly on this type of class at NCMC. There are no other teachers or times to choose from that I am aware of. All we did was read the book 'Justice' and answer questions on it. Lectures we're painfully dry, unclear and not helpful whatsoever.

He has a monopoly on ethicsphilosophy classes, you have no choice in what time you take it, or other teachers that I'm aware of. Very hard teacher. The only thing you do is read the book "Justice" and answer questions on it.

I didn't think I would enjoy the philosophy class at the beginning of the semester, but found Professor Payne's lectures interesting and really enjoyed the class. He is extremely helpful, excellent at replying to questions, and is willing to take the time to answer questions after class. Highly recommend him.

Not a very interactive class unless you make it that way, but he's a teacher who really knows his subject material. He has a unique, morbid sense of humor that he interjects into his lectures, but it's not super in your face. He thoroughly covers your readings in class. Tests are all written so strong writing skills are helpful.

Because it was an online class, your grade was how well you could write. Always presented each work of lit with a written overview, covering significant points of the author (if known,) significant historical points and more. Graded rather leniant. Well recommended.

Awesome and interesting teacher. He is also very funny. Class wasn't too hard as long as you knew the material because some topics covered can get pretty complicated. The first couple weeks were the toughest.

Incredible teacher. One of my favorites. Makes class interesting, makes learning course material feel like fun rather than work. Subjects taught in very thought provoking manner. Nice guy, reasonable and easy to get help from, absolutely recommend any course he is teaching (I have exhausted most all of them)

This man is a pure genius. The best teacher i have ever had. Why is he at ncmc? he should be at a major university. I learn more in one of his courses than all of the rest combined. Should be stuck in a think tank somewhere.

Excellant teacher. I really like philosophy and he makes it very clear when he teachs. He brings up movies, tv shows, and cool books for examples. He likes to be entertained and he likes entertaining his students. However his tests are very hard. He requires a lot of info to be memorzied and he picks what goes on the tests and quizzes.

Excellent Teacher. You have to go into this class knowing there will NOT be answers to the questions posed. You are just supposed to learn to THINK! That can be a little frustrating at first. Payne is quite accomodating provided you put forth the effort due. Be prepared to skew your beliefs you currently hold, and think about WHY you believe it.
