The grade for this class is basically the average of 4 tests. Two are group tests and two are written. The written tests are very tough and he expects a lot of detail so it will bring down your grade. To make up for it, he gives so much extra credit -almost 10- and each one adds a percent to your test average. As a person, he is very interesting.

He truly cares about his students, as well as the health of the world. He is super committed to social justice. He is very understanding about mental health challenges. He is accommodating and kind, because he acts from his heart. He made me question so many things in life, and this class was life changing.

I honestly haven't read any of the books, but his lectures are so thorough and he gives detailed outlines of the readings, so you'll do fine. He is anti-technology and doesn't allow laptops at lectures (he also doesn't use sakai). He's kind of a weird guy with a lot of ideas, but the class is interesting and not very difficult.

Class attendance is mandatory;u can do well on the exams, but ur grade will suffer if u don't show up to the class. 2 group +2 written exams. Lots of details expected for the written ones. But he changes the grading scale at the very end if there are too many A's or A-'s to keep his bell curve (Not recommended bc of this). Learned a lot though.

Papers are either satisfactory or non-satisfactory; class is mandatory; 2 group exams, 2 written exams; lectures can be pretty dry, but sometimes interesting; he shows really interesting films in class! SO. MUCH. EXTRA. CREDIT.

4 papers that are graded satisfactory or unsatisfactory, many extra credit opportunities, 2 group tests, and 2 written tests. Paper as the exam. Overall, straight forward class, and if you go and do the work, you'll get an Easy A. His lectures are boring, however.

He changed my life and my perspective on so much more than just philosophy. I definitely took something out of this class I will carry forever. He gives a lot of extra credit, but you definitely have to work for your grade. Cannot wait to take another one of his classes

Schweickart is an amazing lecturer and makes it clear what needs to be known. 2 of the Tests are group exams which are free A's while the other 2 written exams are a little tougher but he does give you the questions beforehand. There are 4 papers on novels and 4 on movies. He also gives outlines of every reading so reading isn't really necessary.

Dr. Schweickart is so intelligent ! Covered difficult texts, however his lectures were very clear. He prints out lecture notes as handouts so use those for the papers and do the study guides and you'll do great. Also ALOT of extra credit opportunities, do the work and attend class & you'll get an A! Favorite Prof. at Loyola hands down!

Dr. Schweickart is a very intelligent man. This class requires some effort, because the material is difficult to wrap your head around. We also had a TA, who was a super helpful guy. What I liked was that two of the tests were just group discussions, and the "final exam" was simply watching a movie. Only complaint is that I wish he used the board.

This was one of my favorite classes. It was easy in that the papers are not graded and the tests are pretty straight-forward. But you get what you put in, if you read the material and care about it, this is a very rewarding class as the professor is very smart. Even if you don't agree with him, he's very open minded and easy-going.

4 easy response papers that are not graded. 2 tests. Go to lectures and do the study guide and it is an easy class. Reading is not required. Reviewers are freaking because he has everyone read his book. But I found it interesting to question the author face to face! I didn't think he was a God either though! Fair prof. Lectures are kinda boring.

This guy's a genius. Although I don't agree with his book he definitely is a philosopher. There's about 6 books you have to read throughout the year for a total of about 1000 pages so I would not recommend with a full load. Just do the readings and STUDY IN GROUPS for the exams (he gives a study guide) and you'll probably get an A.

This is a very interesting class about economic systems. The teacher is a socialist but presents capitalism as well. There are two test pretty straight forward on the readings and a group project where u come up with your ideal society. Not that hard of a class, and I learned alot.
