I took 3 classes with him, one of which I didn't need. I simply wanted to finish out my college career with him as a professor. He's incredibly caring, and he wants his students to succeed. You'll have to work hard because an A doesn't come easily, but it's worth it. He's brilliant, and his classes are always so well thought out and interesting.

Professor Chapman is an amazing professor! His class is based on multiple short stories and two novels. He doesn't give any quizzes or tests, just midterm and final exam. In class discussions over material everyday. If you read the material, do homework, and participate, the class should be easy for the most part.

My all-time favorite professor at IWU. He is by no means easy. He will push you - I've squeaked out B+A- in all of his classes, and his Literary Minds course is the hardest thing I've ever taken (the class description made my brain stroke out a little). But it's worth it. I learned so much about literature and cognitive science from him.

Amazing professor, but he is not easy. However, he will make you rethink the way you interpret literature and, if you put in the time and effort, you're bound to get no lower than a B. If you ever need help on a paper, just go to his office hours. He's super intelligent and will ask you the right questions to lead you in the right direction.

Every now and then you get a professor who actually changes how you think and work. That was Prof. Chapman for me. He is hard on you for good reason, and he's a wonderful teacher (end of semester speeches are AMAZING). He improved my writing skills by leaps and bounds. Take him if you can, he's completely worth the hassle.

I was in his sci fi class and yes he's a very hard grader but he's more than willing to help you with papers. I learned a lot about analyzing texts in his class and I thought it was a really interesting class. I would take this class but beware it's not easy.

This man is brilliant. I have never had to work harder in my life to get an A on a paper or test, but when I did, it felt so much sweeter. He will make you think more than you ever thought you could, and he will make you work hard. But it's completely and utterly worth it. Take every class you can from him, he's wonderful.

He really gives you good feedback if you aren't too afraid to ask. He's not going to eat your soul, he's actually an easygoing nerdy guy who loves debating the text. Just meet him on his level and you're golden.

Like most of the other comments on here, if you look to take this class for a grade, then reconsider your major, or take it with a different prof.; however, if you want to learn more than you ever have or thought you could about literature and how to write on it, do yourself a favor and take this class. Amazingly helpful in meetings.

Brilliant man. Definitely the best choice to take Prat Crit from, even if your grade isn't what it could be with another professor.

So he never really shows in class how best to write a paper, but his office hours will help. However, he is the HARDEST greader ever, and I believe very unfair. ALWAYS do re-writes. But be warned that he is impossible. He gave me C's when I know I deserved higher...hated his grading.

This guy has a fan club on Facebook, people love him so much. He will change the way you think about literature and you'll be better off for it. Don't take his class for a grade, you'll be sorely dissapointed.

Wes Chapman ROCKS! He is a teacher for those interested in learning about English and literature. If you just care about getting a grade, you will hate him, but if you really want to expand your horizons, he is amazing. I LEARNED techniques on writing and critiquing poetry and literature, instead of memorizing a bunch of stuff. Hard, but good.

Definitely a challenge, but you learn so much its worth it. He's a hard grader, but he gives you a chance to revise and everytime I revised, my grade rose significantly (he takes the higher grade). He's willing to help you if you set up a time. Oh, and he's BRILLIANT. I definitely reccomend him.

Nice guy, good material to work with, HARDEST GRADER EVER. He walked in the first day and said, "I don't give As and I rarely give Bs."
