Comment:

I originally didn't sign up for band but i got an email from Dr. Vroman asking me to play. After going to a few rehearsals I decided to stick with it and am happy with my decision. If Dr. Vroman wouldn't have been cool I would have dropped but he makes it fun enough that it is enjoyable. Even though he is tedious sometimes, it shows in the music.

Comment:

Dr. David Vroman is one of my favorite professors at Bradley University and my second favorite band director/conductor I played under. He wants to create the best musicians out of people by challenging everybody regardless, if you are in the bottom or top band. If you have a conflict and tell him beforehand, he will arrange something and he cares!!

Dr.V has a method to get what he wants from his students and he won't accept anything short of excellence. He hurts a lot of people in the process. Sometimes it's more about making his band great than what's best for you as a person. He will ignore you when you ask questions and he doesn't care if you have conflicts. Band should be #1 priority.

Dr Vroman is one of the best conductors I've played under, hands down (instruments down!) He's compassionate about his music & the students. I have great memories of band & his personality.

Comment:

I can agree more with the statement "if you are not committed to band, he will take the joy out of music." DO NOT take Vroman if music is not your focus. He nearly ruined my freshman year. He's abusive and forgets about reasonable conflicts addressed weeks or months in advance. There is a reason band is mostly composed of freshman and sophomores.

Great band director. We don't play the hardest music but he makes sure we find ways to improve upon everything we do. Big focus on fundamentals. Show up to class and you'll get an A.

You must go to class, know your music, and put in time practicing outside of class. He is sarcastic, which can be funny, but often times he offends his students. He demands excellence which makes his band programs great, but if you are not committed to band, he will take the joy out of music.

He's a difficult man but probably one of my favorite professors on campus. He knows what he wants and how to get it, so don't get in the way or he'll hold it against you. Take things with a grain of salt and show a little respect. Also, tease him constantly, I think he likes it!

The Vro-dizzle is M-azing....Ive taken lessons with him and classes, hes also my advisor and hes an incredibly smart man...If you learn not to take everything personally you will see why he says things....hes an amazing director...a complete reflection or what success can be and its no wonder he has come such a long way in his life with his music!!

If you want to get better as a musician, he'll do it single-handedly (minus you of course!). He's sarcastic and funny and I always enjoyed coming to band. He does understand if you miss a few because you're sick, but really be sick. He catches on to BS pretty quick.

Don't take classes with Dr. Vroman if you're looking for a blowoff. He doesn't like people who don't take his class seriously. If you really like music, though, you can learn a lot with him and you will really be challenged to do your best. He's one of the best teachers I've had here, and I'm not even a music major..

It's not hard if you love music. It''s abotu becoming part of a group and making music as a whole. Vroman allows the class to be more about just fingering your parts; it's about really stepping up to the highest level you can. And he really helps with that.

Dr. Vroman will challenge you. He expects you to work in his bands, but is always interested in helping you achieve. If you play an instrument you have to take the opportunity to play for him. Ask him if there is a "stinger" on "Sempre Fi" =)

Vro is a perfectionist and he's very hard on students, but not as hard as he is on himself. I will say that i learned a lot and enjoyed every class with him. I can't promise that I never cried (brass techniques) but I still liked the classes. He told me to play soccer because I sucked at trumpet ;)

Extremely talented musician/conductor. Knows how to teach well. Very helpful. His dry sense of humor will catch you off guard sometimes. Understands how to make the students strive for excellence using motivation. Great person.
