Chatterjee is an excellent professor and mentor. He encourages debate and discussion and offers valuable feedback on papers. Tests covered only material that was covered in class. Always willing to help with recommendations and anything else students need.

Comment:
Religions of India was interesting but he wasted our time by continually ranting about the Iraq War. Most of our time was spent listening to him complain about the U.S. Only about 1/3 of the class was on topic. He claims to be open minded, but would use personal attacks against students that did not agree with his extreme views.

Excellent professor because he outlined clearly the expectations in order to do well in class, encouraged discussion, and always had a willingness to meet outside of class. Great course/subject matter.

A gem! Chatterjee introduced plural perspectives on issues & encouraged us to participate. Some students complained about the difficulty but for the most part it was because they had not done the readings and didn't participate. This held serious students behind. Fortunately Prof. would continue discussion after class w advanced scholars.

I very much enjoyed this course. Prof. Chatterjee invited students to engage in critical and robust discussions of the material. He was extrememly accessible and available to discuss issues and assignments outside of class. I highly recommend this course!

Excellent Professor for serious students with an interest in global politics and philosophy. Professor Chatterjee is open to reasoned opinions, encourages discussion. Students must do the readings and if you do participation is exciting.

This wasn't a bad class, but it wasn't a good class either. Chatterjee knows his stuff, but his lectures seem to be purely based on his opinions and beliefs (That's what I felt anyway). The reading is pretty dismal and lectures are at times pretty unclear. BTW, you're not allowed to use computers in class. I would avoid this class if you can.

Class was extremely disorganized. He claims to invite discussion and debate but cuts you off if you disagree with him assuming you disagree because you don't understand. He uses his own book to teach from. Has his graduate student grade midterms which turned out to be a disaster by many accounts. Gets easily flustered and angry. DO NOT TAKE!!!

I went to class everyday and read through the chapters twice and got a "D" on the Midterm! It was an "essay" exam. . DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you want to put forth A LOT of effort for a horrible grade in return.

Gained nothing of value from this class. Spent the majority of class rambling on about nothing. Typically only 5 or 10 minutes (literally; I usually timed it) of 'useful' information every couple of classes. Quizzes were often over obscure information that was only ever mentioned in passing. Grading was arbitrary, even for Phil. Total waste of time

He teaches very easy classes because they aren't about anything other than what he thought about that morning over toast and coffee. Getting an A out of the class is as simple as regurgitating whatever tangential nonsense he takes a week to say. I'd recommend him if you don't mind a professor who doesn't prepare notes in order to stay "fresh."

Do NOT take this course in Intl Justice. His teaching style is unorganized, non related tangents, briefly and in ambigous ways covers topics he in turn expects you to command. His study guide for an exam had nothing to do with his tests! Then he tried to defend it. The worse part is he slyly tries to insert his opinion into everything.

The worst sides of philosophy professors comined in one single package who picks favorites, disregards everyone else, and loves the sound of his own voice pontificating ideas which aren't remarkable or unique. I don't recommend him.

I took many classes from Deen. He was the best Prof. I had at at the U. Many complain about his lecture style as too uncomfortable and too many tangents. It is true, but that's what Philosophy is. Uncomfortable and relates to everything. The best lectures and discussions I ever had.
