I love Dr. Skok! I had her my first semester & made her my advisor. Classes are almost entirely discussion-based. She's big on participation, but if you read the assignment it really isn't hard. Most her classes follow the same format for grades: a few reading quizzes, 1 book analysis paper, midterm, & final. My favorite professor at Hendrix.

I didn't particularly like her, but I didn't dislike her either. She is ALL about participation (at least in my class she was). She is good about taking in other's opinions, but she can be passive aggressive at times.

Dr. Skok is an amazing woman, but expect a lot of work. I am not a history major, but I took a 300 level course. Definitely be ready to read. She assigns a ton of reading assignments, and I would have done better in the class if I had read all of it. Not that I didn't do the reading, but there was just so much.

Dr. Skok was a great professor to have for my first fall semester. The course was interesting and she seemed to really enjoy engaging everyone in class discussion. She was always willing to clarify assignments and provide study guides for exams. Overall, I would highly recommend taking one of her courses.

She's clearly intelligent and knowledgable about her topic. She makes expectations clear and follows through on her expectations. However, she doesn't control a talkative class very well and takes awhile to grade assignments. All in all, she's good not great.

Like her as a person but in a discussion class she can be pretty condescending and not very helpful when you have questions about assignments. Also a TON of reading. I feel like I didn't really learn anything that I didn't already know. Discussion among students was good and interesting though.

Comment:
Dr. Skok is a good person and professor. She definitely knows what she's talking about, and her class is enjoyable. Sometimes the discussions can be a bit slow, because there are a few people in the class that don't have much interest in the material. There is a lot of reading in this particular class, but most of it is quite interesting

Dr. Skok is a passionate woman who is a bit too repressed. You can tell she has a lot to give and I hope in the future she will be less inhibited. Her lectures are very informative and if she came out of her shell a bit more I am confident I would not only be better informed about our past, but satisfied about my present.

Readings were super interesting. Discussions weren't that great, but that's b/c certain people in the class monopolized the floor. Dr. Skok's lectures were pretty interesting and relevant, and she was a fair grader. Definitely recommend this class

Fun (sometimes a bit dorky) teacher. Great discussions, but one must do the readings for the discussions or he/she will be lost. A lot of personal opinion questions. Powerpoints are helpful. Make sure to keep up with everything or the tests and assignments may be difficult.

Comment:
Dr. Skok is a professor who likes to discuss facts a lot. the discussions are reiterations of student interpretations and review of the readings and any attempt to start a stimulating discussion is squashed in the intrest of the broader agenda

Comment:
Discussions are just commentary of students' opinions, not much at all about actual content. Lectures were very scattered and borderline-useless. Very interesting subject, however taught from a non-history perspective, which really shouldn't be done at this level. Dr. Skok can be really patronizing at times too. Wouldn't take her again if I had to.

Dr. Skok is a very nice lady, but not a great professor. She has trouble facilitating discussions, and i got the impression she didn't really listen to her students when they spoke. Her tests are unnecessarily difficult, and are weighted heavily on petty details of the texts. Take Dr. Skok if you are a hardcore history oriented person, otherwise no

Dr. Skok is helpful, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable. She is very passionate about her work. Also, she sometimes shows interesting video clips at the beginning of class. The reading is slightly heavy, at most around 60 pages. Few lectures, mostly discussion. Highly recommended!

Students: do the readings, even about rice. Go talk to her often about papers. Prof Skok: Just in case you see this, please lecture more. I felt smothered by discussions, and your mastery of the subject is admirable.

There really aren't lectures; it's mainly discussion. In this way, you're on your own in terms of comprehension. Mostly paper grades (where she nitpicks everything) and she speeds through her powerpoint slides so that you can't write down anything. She is also obsessed with death and depression. Says "um" every sentence.

Her class are mainly discussion based. If you read the homework assignments, you should do fine in her class. She very helpful if you ask her to look over your papers. Also, occasionally she tends to cuss, which is funny. Make sure to back your statement with textual evidence!

She's a really nice woman, and really likes the people in class who speak up. The readings in this class were pretty interesting. If you don't read, there's no way you'll pass her fairly frequent pop quizes or 2 tests. She "lectures," but doesn't tell you anything you wouldn't have known if you read.
