Comment:

Prof. Coaty is very knowledgable in this field and you can tell from the way he talks. Hes a smart guy, but very strict especially if you fall asleep or he catches you on your phone. Your grade depends on if you actually listen to his lectures and read the essays in the class book (which are very heavy and complex). Also, 5 page essay. Yikes.

He gives out take-home mid-terms so I don't anyone should be complaining. Grading certain is a little messy so beware. Overall he's awesome you will learn a lot from just sitting in his lectures... don't fall asleep tho he'll call you out big time.

Dr Coaty was by far the easiest class i took at OCC. If you just do the work it will be easy. He drops one midterm and his midterms are multiple choice. He did go off topic a lot but it was all very intellectual stuff.

Dr Coaty is a top notch professor. He is straight laced and extremely intelligent. If you want to learn, and find out interesting facts along the way I recommend him. The take home tests were not hard if you take notes and go to class. People that complain about him are just lazy and shouldn't be in college cause they don't care about learning.

Professor Coaty goes completely off topic during lectures. He offers extra credit and drops one midterm. I struggled the entire semester but ended with an A. If you take this class, do the EC, show up to class, and write a good essay. BEST ADVICE: just take american government at GWC, you're welcome

I literally fell asleep in almost every class and still got a B. The homework is really easy and most of the content on the exams are based on the homework. He talks about current events and real world stuff for the first half of class and students are welcome to join in and have group discussion. He made a, in my opinion, boring subject not so bad

At first you'll be too scared he'll make you feel stupid if you ask him for help outside of class, but he's really a super nice guy and cares for his students. 3 MTs (drops lowest), paper & EC are generously graded (do both), a quiz or two, & final. Studying for MT/final was very tedious, pay attention to quotes are specific details/laws

He is a pretty outspoken guy. It was a little intimidating to participate, but honestly, he's spitting some truth in his lectures. They really motivated me, who was once apathetic about today's gov, to see it in a new light. He means well, and its not that hard to finesse the "studying" with google.

Professor Coaty knows what he is talking about. He talks about world issues that are currently effecting us as a nation. He is an Air Force vet who carries himself like one. Do not take his online class! Also his choice of text involves memorizing the opinions about American government of other people, rather than memorizing facts about American government. You must memorize EVERYTHING. He messed up in the beginning of the semester and then was not clear about what he wanted for the rest. He does not check his email.

I wouldn't recommend him He rambles on about nonsense throughout the whole semester. No homework, but there's A LOT of reading. Grade is based on 3 midterms, a 5 page paper and the final exam. I really didn't learn very much. Also he said he doesn't curve the grade, but I think he did because I got a B and I had a D the whole semester.

Omg... his online class was a hot mess. This professor needs to leave teaching alone. He has no sense of teaching an online class or communicating with his students. Don't take this class unless you want more stress in your life. Don't bother emailing him because he never responds, he always ignores students and their opinion.
