Terrible at explaining concepts. Says one thing then goes back and says another. Things will make sense when you do the homework, but then she "teaches" and completely confuses you. Would've liked more ways to assess knowledge and get practice. Avoid her if you can.

Awesome professor. Some explanations of concepts are confusing (looking at you: pointers and polymorphism), but a quick google search can yield an easy understanding. Projects were given with plenty of time and were helpful to understand material being learned in class. Any bad review about 246 is because it is THE weed out for computer science.

nothing is clearly explained. assignment directions do not make sense for most assignments. she uses different terminology than the book and will test you on her words. Yet, you have to go through the online book for participation points. I wish Dr. Sam taught every class. He has clear directions and teaches you everything. DON'T TAKE HER FOR 246

Great professor. Competent and asks for student feedback about the way she teaches so that she can improve for future semesters which is a great quality. Grades fairly and doesn't expect unreasonable skills like public speaking ability during presentations. Grades you purely on the course material and the goals she is trying to teach. A+

Deborah Whitfield.. is quite possibly the coolest and most helpful comp science professor at SRU. She tries to help everyone the best she can and will explain things as many times as it takes for everyone to understand a topic. She also has a great sense of humor which makes the class very enjoyable. Seriously take her, you won't be disappointed.

Great professor. Always willing to help and reexplain as needed. Classes is humorous and informative. Material is not easy. Professor teaches it well. Will require about 4 hours out of class per assignment. We had 6 assignments

Dr. Whitfield is a good teacher, but if you don't go to class nor take notes you'll fall behind quickly and wind up failing. Show up take notes, do homework, study, you'll pass with a good grade. No book needed. She's older but she doesn't act nor dress like it, and it works well for her. She does look really good for her age!

Shes a really great lady, the class starts off slow but gets a bit challenging FAST. Her tests & assignments can be challenging but if you actually study the notes she posts you should do good. Don't be afraid to ask questions or go to her office, shes very helpful & doesn't want to see anyone do bad. I stopped to ask questions almost every morning

Knowledgeable without being condescending. Affable and nice. She is a pleasant person who will answer any question you ask. Test aren't hard if you pay attention but she grades them harshly. otherwise,just don't take smack about the Browns she is a huge fan. Good sense of humor.

Helped out a lot. Class was really easy, sat through and played games the whole class. I knew a lot of the material beforehand as it was all basic Java/C++ concepts, so I didn't really need to pay attention. Missed labs almost every day, but labs can be done over night and turned in. Very personable and funny. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!
