Comment:

Just finished this class and found Mr. Ferrara to be very helpful and very clear on what he wanted from us. This is a BASIC SPEECH CLASS, so he helps you get over the nervousness of public speaking. Wonderful class and I highly recommend this class to anyone.

Comment:

Dennis is a rather eccentric fellow. However, I didn't find his class very educational. My public speaking improved, but this was due to repetition, not Ferrara's guidance; most of the class relies on giving speeches based on a strict outline. The midterm is based on notes he gives on the first day and rarely reinforces. An easy 4.0, just lacking.

I am very impressed with Professor Ferrara and his class for public speaking. I have learned so much, primarly in conquering my fears while speaking, learning methods and ways of preparing a speech, and finding interesting ways to pronounce my speach. Dennis is an instructor that gives you the rules on day one. It is up to you if you want to follow them or not. It is too your advantage if you do follow them. Do the work and you are good.

If you listen to how he says to do your speech, you will do good. It doesn't have to be awesome but just go up there and pretend you know what your saying. You can read right off a note card. The only hard thing about this class is the midterm. Make sure you take good notes that he gives on the 1st or 2nd day of class.

Loved the 3 guest speakers; army, mortician, and master karate expert; learned much and feel better about giving speeches; 2 speeches weekly during summer; DF was clear, concise and specific. Follow directions and ask for help; he keeps 3 hours of office time and you'll do fine! 3.5-4.0 class. He's no nonsense; don't lie and be honest. It was fine!

It was a great class; learned much and now feel confident in speaking before groups; 3 guest speakers including Master John Lyle - 5th degree Black Belt - Karate involved the class; if you follow simple directions from syllabus, handouts> NO BOOK, boardwork, and ask help, you'll pull a 3.50-4.0

Comments are curious! He helped anyone who wanted help! He was tough but extremely fair. He went over it before class and ck'd outlines. He said 1st day if you followed simple directions that was 90% success in his class; I learned a great deal and plan to take COM 132. If you think it's a breeze without working, this is the wrong class.

Mr. D was fine; I noticed that if you did not follow directions which were clearly outlined in the syllabus, specific handouts, written on the board and clearly explained that certain students who never listened anyway did poorly; these negative remarks are from those types. He kept 3 hours of office time to help anyone who wanted help! Tough--yes

I disagree with the other comments; if you follow directions which were printed, on the board, and discussed, it was a breeze! He worked with me and I maintained a 4.0. I could send emails and he would go over the outlines before I would give a speech; great help!!

i have never had a worse teacher in my life. I was excited for a communications class until this class.he seemed to enjoy talking down to our class. he actually said to us that this was not a remedial class and some of us should rethink our choice to take this class. i emailed my speech and he never bothered to get back with me as he offered
