The nicest teacher I've ever known here. Gentle, funny and informative. His exam can be hard but you also need to study, don't ya?

I had Hidalgo for Honors World Civ I & II. He expects a lot out of his students and doesn't tolerate slacking but he is such a great professor and person. He is willing to work with students and is flexible with exams. Takes forever to return things, but I would take another class with him without hesitation.

He set the standard high enough to scare the weak students, but he is so caring, that is worth the risk. Moreover, his classes cover topics rarely studied in other courses, and he tries hard to make them interesting and funny. I would take him again.

Definitely a difficult class, but if you do the DAILY reading reactions and two essays you should do well. Even though he is a tough grader during the semester, he tends to be a little more leinent when it comes to the final grade. Expect to do work every day for his class though, otherwise you will not do that well.

It is true. He is very demanding, weekly reactions to reading and class participation. A very VERY hard midterm, but final exams are occasionally waved off. But essay writing will continue to be a pest. Al though he gives helps, he delays too long in giving back corrected essays.

Caribbean Intellectual was an advanced course; lots of difficult readings and weekly reactions. But nobody can say that Professor Hidalgo did not work hard to help everyone. He accommodated the reading and assignments to the class abilities, and took us to a very informative and interesting historical tour. A dedicated and inspiring Professor!

He is very demanding and if you are not a history-person you just cannot deal with everything he expects. He takes himself and his class way too seriously. His midterms are extremely hard. In class we discuss ideas but on the exam he wants exact dates and names. His way of teaching is not suitable for the way he examines his students.

The work for the class was a lot but it was an advanced level class. He is truly a sweet man who cares about history and his students. He is easy to talk to so if you do have questions or problems he is there to help. He will help you with your papers if you need it which will improve your grade. I would take him again!

Prof. Hidalgo is an awesome, intelligent person. He really engages you in history because he loves it himself! The work is what you would expect from history- a lot of reading! And the discussions on blackboard and in class are interesting only if the students participate - he will love you for it. Overall, he's one of the best professors ever!

This was an advanced class, for God̢۪s sake! What were you supposed to expect? Of course he is not for the feeble minded, but that is what makes him so good. He is also compassionate. He makes you think broad. Helps you write better. If you are interested you get a lot from him. And he is hot, too. :)

He is a nice person and professor. He expects a lot from his students and the work load is massive. Readings are large and difficult. He is big on blackboard and papers. You will write AT LEAST 4 essays if not more. If you take a class with him clear your schedule because you will spend all of your time reading, posting on Blackbordand writing essay

I am, on the oher hand, doing better this semester than he previous one. The class is more relaxed and less polarized. I have participated more than ever, in any given class, and I am writing better. He really make sudents feel comfortable, encourage learning and discussion, and above everything else, he respects us.

I'm a lot less satisfied with this class since last semester. We don't really talk about anything, he is taking a month and half to get our essays back, and he's cool and everything, but I'm paying to learn about history. I would apppreciate it if he would talk more about the sources.

Hidalgo has a passion for his students and gets to know everyone. He knows your name the 1st week, and he loves what he teaches. 2 1500 word essays due on the same day &hard tests. But if you talk to him, he gives you more time. However, a lot of the time we get off on unrelated tangents. Expect to go to the city to relate class to history.

An exceptional scholar and teacher. Very approachable, passionate, and dedicated educator. If you get to know his thinking and expectations you can do well in his class. It requires lots of reading, but you will enjoy the class, and will learn a lot. He is a fair grader and supports you even after you are not in school anymore.
