his lectures weren't very useful and his tests were ridiculous. i used to have breakdowns after assignments in this class because they sucked up all my time from other classes. professor lieu himself isn't a terrible guy, but don't take this class expecting it to be 2 units of work--it's more like 5. got a much higher grade in 61a with less work.

Overall fine professor. Talks a little too fast and the lectures are vital. GSIs are extremely tough graders and no one provides solutions to the homeworks or tests, so good luck figuring out if you're doing anything right

Tests and exams are so much harder than what's taught in class/lab. Professor believed that the level of hardness was necessary for separating the class into various grade bands. "If the exam's easy, everybody should expect to get the average grade, which is matched to a C+ ". Hence the class seemly more competitive than collaborative.

Homeworks aren't too bad until you hit the animating section of the course. The final project will take you alone a couple hundred hours if you want to get a good grade. The time commitment toward the end of the semester is tough. Not a bad guy though; he's helpful if you ask him for help. Attending lab is a must.

Professor Lieu is an incredibly chill guy and his lectures are very humorous. Never opened the book other than for homework; lectures are very adequate. Beware of the GSIs and the homework readers though, they tend to grade very tough and are very picky.

Liked the professor, didn't enjoy the class. Lieu is enthusiastic about drafting and design, but you don't see much of him because it's a 2-unit class. Very long and boring AutoCAD assignments (I detest AutoCAD now). Tests are extremely difficult, but fair. End-of-semester project takes a good chunk of time if you want a good grade.

He's a nice dude and is willing to help if you don't understand something. However, he still tries to make us suffer. Assignments are hard, take forever, and are extremely frustrating. Tests are death. Though the GSIs grade pretty fairly and the class is curved. Hated this class but if you do the HW you should be fine. Should be 5 units not 2.

If you're a girl and you want an A...wear a low cut shirt and a short skirt. Dennis likes to get overly friendly with particular students, and tries to act like he's "one of the students". It gets kinda weird sometimes given his age.

Gotta love how easy this guy is...people at Cal seriously complain too much about how hard we have it. I neglected to turn in my project in time, but prof lieu made an exception for me to turn it in late and gave me full credit for it. Other than that, he's horrible at explaining, and as other users have mentioned, he's not the most likable person

Professor Lieu is difficult, but for assignments, he's chill. The rules may say don't be late, and he may say it, but he has said previously he's cool with students turning their work in a week late. Bottom line, my work is always late and I get decent grads, no penalties!

And after the final you feel like you wasted a semester + $150. Archery isn

I took Dennis Lieu's E28 class back in the Fall of 1995. AutoCAD R12 running under DOS! For those who can visualize in 3D, this class should not be hard at all. There will be many tougher classes in store for you in the rest of your four years here! Homework is time consuming, but nothing will get you stuck or frustrated. Lieu is a good profess

Class was pretty straightforward. Everything is covered in lecture, or you can dig through the book to find the important stuff. Lieu pretty much tells you what he wants you to know, and the GSIs explain in more detail.

This professor did not stay on top of his GSIs and readers. The GSIs were decent, but seemed lazy during review sessions. The readers had returned about 5 out of 12 or 13 HW assignments by the end of the semester. The professor had unreasonably long exams that did not resemble 'practice exams' at all. HW was tedious and annoying, project was OK

So on the first day, he tried to tell us a joke, "I am a ****." We laughed. By the time the first midterm came, we doubted his "joke." By the time the second midterm came we knew he was not joking. You be the judge.

Is it necessary to give 5 units of work to a 3 unit class? Is it a good thing if the GSIs are more helpful than the professors? Are convoluted lectures your favorite way to waste time? Do you enjoy watching a 60 yr old professor****the girl sitting next to you? If you answered "yes" to any of these question, then boy do I have a class for you!
