Every week you have to turn in at least a 4 page paper on anything you want. But it doesn't have to be a paper, it could be a video, music whatever way you want to express yourself. Very interesting class. At first you're like how will i write four pages but since you can write in your voice, language, tone it becomes easy. Take him.

I am grateful to have been in his class, it was so much fun! I very much appreciated that any work produced was acceptable to be submitted- it took the pressure off to have a bunch of low-stakes work. Also, the content of the class was fun; Prof. Owens made an effort to apply the work to individual interests and gave thoughtful feedback.

Owens is great, honestly, and it's as good a class as any English class. You have to write but it's literally a writing class so there's no reason you shouldn't expect that. He won't judge you on topic or even really the quality of you're writing... he takes what you give him at first and asks some questions and makes you think so you get better.

FYW pretty easy class, you can write about any topic of your choosing each week then give feedback to the writing of your classmates. Cool class, relaxed, spoke about current events. Derek is a skilled professor and pushes you to think beyond your boundaries.

He actually showed up later in the semester to take over my prior FYW professor. He is actually pretty chill and as long as you do all the work he ask (which isn't a lot), you are guaranteed an A. You only have to a couple of papers and you just have to revise it. He will go over the paper in class in fronts of others but he doesn't bash at all.

Professor Owens and FYW1000C taught me to be okay with who i am. This class opened up so many doors and it was truly inspiring to meet others who are just like me. He doesnt grade you based on your writing because writings shouldnt be graded and that's the biggest reason why i loved this class. No one judged nor made fun of. it was truly amazing.

He is a great professor don't listen to what the people below wrote. Yes you have to write essays but that's the point of the class what do you expect. We were allowed to write about any topic we were interested in. There were three drafts we had to write and during the class we would have a class discussion on what we could add to our essays.

You really need to make a good first impression on this guy or your semester is basically ruined. No matter how hard you work from that point on, it's just downhill from there. Derek Owens looks really good on paper when you look at his credentials. Very soon, however, it is really clear that he cannot escape his cage of narcissism. He is condescending to the point where you wonder what has happened in his life that made his sense of self-importance so elevated.

Unless you really can't stand to do any work - period - this class is one of the easiest I've come across. Write five pages every seven days on a topic OF YOUR CHOOSING, and show up for class for three hours. If you don't pass this class, there's something wrong with you.

I never have liked to write really. High school was easy enough becuase all i had to do was what they told me to and I got all As. In this class I actually wrote about stuff that was important to me. I haven't done this in a class ever before. Prof. Owens really believes in our ideas and doesn't just pretend. Nuff said.
