Dr. Falk is a tough grader but will bend over backwards to help figure out how to get you to graduate in four years and make your schedule as perfect as possible (music major schedules will always be riddled with problems). If she knows that you're a good student she is very understanding. Always try your best and hand things in on time.

Comment:

She's a super tough grader, but everything she teaches is extremely practical. It might not be exactly what you do when you get out and teach, but she really pushes you to work for excellence. While she might not be as "inspiring" as some other people in the department, the department would fall into chaos since she's the only organized one.

She's one tough lady. She won't let you slide with anything but she is one of the best professors at WPU and will help you for the rest of your life. Don't get mad, just do your job better than you want to try and you'll be good.

OK--she's demanding in class (Choral Methods) but what she teaches in practical and you'll need it when you do practi****or student teaching. She's a big help for advising and will do anything she can to help you but she won't break the rules if you screw up. I'm sorry she's not going to continue to be the chair of the department.

The only thing that matters with a music prof is this:Would the students respect this person if she was stripped of her position of power. In other words, is she respectable as a musician? Never heard her sing, play, conduct, or whatever she does. Why should a non-musician represent a music program? The department needs a GREAT LEADER, an ARTIST!

I had her for ear training my freshman year, and learned more from her than most teachers that i have had since - i was upset when she became head of the music department only because i knew she wasn't going to be teaching many other classes. I also had her for Teaching Strategies Choral, and it was one of my favorite classes, only because i was taught PRACTICAL material, and the class was focused on what was IMPORTANT for teaching. Her paper that she made us write was a lot of busy work... good advisor!

She is a very strong woman, and is doing a fine job as department head. The REAL downfall of the department is education majors who refuse to practice. She will do whatever is in her power to help, but if she can't help, she won't. I've found that the only people who don't like her are the people who whine about "too much work" (aka, the lazy people) and the people who are mad at her because she can't get them in the class they want to take a week after registration has closed.

Whoever thinks this woman knows anything knows nothing - she plainly should not be involved in a college program - perhaps elementary school. . . she has no leadership skills and gets no respect. As for a teacher - I don't know how someone who has no active participation in music, can be teaching it.

Those who do not understand how the music department works, should not be running it. Once you spend time with the students, attend their recitals and know who is in your department, then you can have a say.
