I'm not even halfway through the semester and he's absolutely always off topic. Today he's asking everyone what point they see in marriage. This has NOTHING to do with Political Violence. I was so excited to take this class but its proving to be an absolute waste of time. Nice guy...but please try not to take this class if you don't have to.

Comment:

Gupta is great. He' from India, and unbiased in his teaching. One midterm and one final consisting of 5 questions. Must answer well to receive a good grade. One 10 page paper, my was 7 pages and I got a B. Very fair grader. Sometimes he allows you to take exams home. He sticks to the subject at hand and allows students to interject. Take it.

I found Gupta to be an extremely knowledgable professor and his class was very interesting. He didn't use power points but I still took notes during class. Instead of the open-book exams, he gave us take home papers that I found to be less stressful than studying for an exam. I found his class to be very interesting and I walked away learning a lot

Gupta is clearly very knowledgeable, but he is not a great teacher, if you are interested in this class, you can still learn something, but only from reading the books. He is nice and helpful if you visit his office hours, but the classes are boring and off-topic, if you can handle a boring class but do the reading, then I recommend this class.

Pretty interesting class, if you want to do well read the books...especially his. My only serious gripe about the class was the girl TA. VERY unapproachable, if she hates being a TA then she should just let the other TA handle it. He was pretty cool and was very knowledgeable about the course like Gupta. Two tests and an essay...cant complain!

Interesting subject and the books were good to have read, but his lectures are boring and often unrelated to the tests. 2 tests with a 2 page cheat sheet, essay format + Essay and 2 pop quizzes. Not a good class but not a bad one either

I hated this class, it was incredibly boring to attend. He seems like a megalomaniac, only wants to assign his own texts & tests mainly on that material. Lame. But on the other hand it was a pretty easy class & you get 1 page of notes (front & back)for the exam.

Comment:

Class was interesting, both in the sense that it covered interesting topics but also in how it was graded. First test (multiple choice), the class bombed. The next test and final (essay) were an absolute breeze. A cheat sheet is allowed on all the tests. Very helpful TAs too because they hold several study sessions before each exam.

Take this class if you want an easy A-. You get a page of notes, front and back for all tests. 1 multi-choice test and 2 essay tests. The material is confusing and scattered but look over the book put all study guide topics in the cheat sheet and it'll be one of the easiest grades. 2 pop quizzes, but not graded, get 10% 4 turning them in.

First of all, there are no extra credit oppurtunities. Extremely interesting subject with an extremely boring professor teaching it. TAs do all of the grading and their study sessions were unhelpful & a complete waste of time. Study guide for final (cumulative) was misleading & ambiguous. Must read books b/c lectures are repetitive & unorganized

Class was a breeze as long as you went to class and took good notes. You get two pages of notes on the tests and there is a lot of extra credit. The TA's are essential to getting through the class. Very interesting perspective on terrorism, I highly recommend taking this class. DO NOT BUY BOOKS IF YOU PLAN ON GOING TO CLASS!
