Comment:

Quite frankly, Keesey should be avoided. Although he is very knowledgable in the subject, he is beyond boring. The class consists of a quiz, followed by an hour of Keesey reading quotes from the text. Tests are graded based on whether one restates Keesey's opinions (not mentioned in class, because he doesn't lecture).

This is the most rigid teacher you can find at SJSU. He thinks his critical literary theory is the right one because he's published. He's a hard grader, and no matter what you do, he will not give you a good grade unless you echo his sentiments. Go to his office hours for ideas and revising your paper, or else. This old **** sucks.

Comment:

Very knowledgeable but married to a critical theory idea that is about 25 years out of style. Specific and rigid in what he wants but gives you everything you need to get a good grade in his lectures. Very funny and dry sense of humor. Give him a chance, you'll either love him or hate him. Either way you'll leave with a deeper knowledge of literature.

A great professor. A bit boring sometimes, but he knows his subject like the back of his hand. It's not hard to do well in class if you do the reading, listen to the lecture and can write a competent essay. Honestly, he DOES like to hear his opinions echoed in test essays, but that is the point of a TEST, to evaluate students' comprehension.

I enjoyed the assigned readings, however I could not for the life of me get an 'A' during our written tests. I wrote like the wind for many pages but still could not get enough detail into the essay to please him. He occasionally made funny comments, but included very little class discussion. He is very old school, his way is the right way.

Although many students dislike him, I found him to be very kind and helpful when approached during office hours. He's old school, but a kind man. He does grade harshly, he's definitely set in his opinions, but he's often right. The class can be boring, but his lectures can also be fascinating.

DON'T TAKE THIS MAN! He gives 2 essays inf 1hr 15min, and it doesn't matter what you write; its his way or the highway! I wrote 11 pages in that time frame and he said I didn't provide enough "detail". ? He is a cool teacher, but a****ty grader.

Very knowledgable man. Has tons of information to impart. Tends to give a straight lecture with less class interaction than some may like, but not boring. Teaches in a clear, understandable way. Wonderful teacher from which to learn about the classics. Lots of reading but the work isn't difficult

Amazingly TERRIBLE professor. Perhaps those who don't like him actually have brains, minds of their own -- fresh ones. He just can't handle that. He thinks he knows everything. He's living in a time warp and is very ineffective, unhelpful. You will have to learn to survive. That's about it.

Keesey is easily the most brilliant teacher at SJSU. Most students don't like him because he is from the old school of teaching, but if you aren't lazy, you can gain a lot from this class. Also, he has a dry wit and is always cracking little jokes. Funny!
