Very boring and dry, but he means well. Certainly knows his stuff and always happy to help. Tests can be tough, but as long as you go to class and participate, you'll be fine.

While asking for studying techniques/advice for success in this class, he instead told me I need to change my major to something "better." I attended every class (even though it wasn't mandatory), studied for 10+ hours for each test (no lie), and STILL got my first ever C. I was never the best at Geography, but I had a 3.9 GPA prior to his class.

For a survey course it's very reasonable. As long as you attend classes and pay attention there's not much you won't know come test time. He puts power points up on the P drive on time, and his testing set up is solid and predictable. Tons of bonus quizzes! Sometimes he gets off track, but you can tell he loves the material

Buckwalter isn't lenient or helpful at all to any students. He has a reputation to try to cop out instead of helping and rarely if ever responds to emails. His notes are mostly given verbally, the powerpoint slides are just small outlines that will not help a student pass.

Great guy and professor although the course was very difficult for me given I have no prior experience and took it as a liberal studies elective. The tests were pretty difficult for me although he offers many bonus quizzes that help to boost your grade. The lectures are pretty boring although he will go out of his way to help you out need be.

It's a really tough class - especially for an intro class. But he is really clear on the grading criteria and gives LOTS of bonus points if you come to class on time. He gives little bonus quizzes at the beginning of class - things like drawing a map of Japan, writing a couple sentences about southwest Asia... things like that. So don't skip class!

STOP RIGHT HERE! whatever you do: DO NOT take his class! Lectures are extremely boring, as I would watch the paint dry. His senseless lectures had absolutely NOTHING to do with the tests. One plus was that he gave two location quizes where I learned all the capitals, cities, countries of the world. Easy....

He is a nice guy tries to crack a joke here and there. If you are not interested in Geography do not take him. As i science major geo104 was not required for me but ended up being one of my hardest classes. He will give help if you ask out of class. Only grades 2 quizzes and 3 tests.

He is super nice, and very genuine.BUT. His tests are hard, location quizzes are easy, and he does throw in extra credit quizzes. I thought his class was going to be my easiest classes, but its my hardest class this semester. He goes off topic a lot leaving you not prepared for the test In your best interest I would try another teacher

This class may be a bit boring, but he is the nicest professor. He will ramble on quite a bit, but if you ask for help he will help in any way that he can even if it does not deal with his class. He is very passionate about the topics that he teaches and very informative. I am glad that he is a member of my department.

Yes, his class is a bit boring, but if you show up and make the attempt to pay attention you will learn something. Location quizzes are easy if you actually take a few minutes to look at the map and find the locations. His exams are pretty straight forward usually without essays and writings. If you show up to class , you can do very well.

Dry, but funny, if you dont understand a topic he will help you until you do. Exams can be tricky but offers lots of assignments that will really boost your grade. Missing class is not an option as assigbment due dates will change and he will deduct points for late work. He is very knowledgable and passionate about his work and students.

Comment:

This is the only class I managed to get a D in, while at IUP. He was boring, his tests were difficult, and there was a lot of memorization involved. I do not recommend him at all. The only good thing I can say is that he is nice, but that doesn't make up for being dull!
