Comment:
I have yet to dislike a professor this much. Several students, including myself, struggled with the homework. He does not teach the material and you are forced to learn it by yourself. He spends the majority of the lecture talking about his experiences instead of relevant information. I think he is a detriment to the hospitality program.

This is one of the worst classes I've taken. You know there's a problem when even the professor doesn't know how to do the homework. He makes lengthy tests the night before the test. You basically have to teach yourself the material.

I had taken accounting before and assumed that an entry-level accounting course would be very similar to what I had learned but I was completely wrong. This guy is so scatterbrained it's ridiculous. He makes the tests and not until the night before so he doesn't have time to check them for errors and there always is some! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.

I have had Dr. Nelson for HTM 322 Facilities Management. HTM 411 Hospitality and Tourism Law and HTM 191, sanitation. He is an excellent professor, not easy though. He is hysterical, entertaining, and a fantastic professor. I highly recommend him as a professor.

I didn't have the same experience with Nelson as everyone else. The class was Hospitality Facilities Management/Design and I was excited about it, but was disappointed. The material is so unecessary/useless I can't even believe it's required. Lithium-bromide absorption cycles? Vapor compression cycles? Nice guy, but ridiculuous class and material

Took food sanitation and facilities mgnt with him and wish he could teach more classes. I second everything everyone else said. Those classes would have been hell without his great teaching manner. He cracks the worst jokes, and everyone laughes at how bad they are, not the joke itself. But he knows that and doesn't care, which makes him great.

I spent a lot of time with Nelson, having taken three classes with him. His sense of humor is quirky, which makes him an interesting guy. Not the most interesting subject matter, but his enthusiasm makes up for it. He offers a lot of help to his students.

Learned a whole lot in this class. He doesn't make the exams as easy as they could be but prepares you for HAACP like no other. I did so well and was so perpared on the HACCP certification that it made me certified to teach the course!

Dr. Nelson is one of my favorite teachers at Purdue. He is so full of energy and has such a unique sense of humor that he makes hospitality engineering interesting. He will take the time out of his very busy schedule to sit down with you and repeatedly answer your questions until you understand.
