One of precious few instructors who have ever moved me enough to inspire me to rate them. He was incredibly helpful and kept the class engaged (it was a night class) without requiring anyone to actually speak. He is retired now (from LCC) but still teaches at MSU. He wrote the textbook, and gave it to us for free. Amazing man.

Hands down the *BEST* professor I have ever had! Make sure you take TONS of notes in each class. Literally, every word he speaks. Otherwise you won't pass his tests. He is very smart and passionate, learned more from this class than any other college course. Always willing to answer all questions and help out. Highly recommended!!!!

This class is pretty difficult, but Sjoquist gives pretty good lectures. You have to take a lot of notes if you want to be successful because you're held responsible for a lot of information. He's a really cool professor though.

He's a fairly good teacher, but the class is HARD. You need to keep up with the reading and pay close attention in class, and take a lot of notes. His lectures are somewhat boring too, unless he's talking about Asia, and he turns most of the lights off and has a powerpoint, so I'd suggest against early morning, and bring some coffee to stay awake.

Great teacher, he really enjoys teaching,& he doesn't give out homework! I recommend him as a teacher. Not an easy class but not a hard class either. You just have to pay attention, take down notes, & read the book to prepare for quizzes and that's pretty much it. Great class!

This class was challenging but as long as you studied for the quizzes and exams you will do fine! All the info on the exams is from his lecture so you need to go to class and the only grades are from the exams and quizzes. Although it is a hard class he will go out of his way to help and is a really nice guy!! Just study and listen to his lectures!

I would take another class from him in a heart beat. If you go to class, take notes, study a little for tests, you'll pass. He has class guide books that make studying easy. Highly highly highly recommend him! He is half the reason I chose the major I did. H truly cares about students and their grades. He'll even give you copies of the power points

Professor Sjoquist was an amazing professor. He knew exactly what he was talking about and was ready to answer any questions we had. The only downside was that everything in the class was based on lecture and there was no textbook to find the answers, so class attendance was mandatory just to get all of the information. But overall, he is great!

Amazing teacher, very intelligent man! You will learn A LOT in a short amount of time! One project, lots of reading, quizzes, and tests. All to help you get a good grade. Tough grader though so STUDY STUDY STUDY! Head of the department or something so his exams are just like the final. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

He is very passionate about the subject matter, but has a tendency to ramble and the tests are specific and difficult. He also does not go in chronological order so this can be confusing. He uses power point presentations in all of his lectures. He is personable and nice.

Cannot recommend this professor. Class was interesting but he purposely writes questions for exams in tricky manners. There is MASS amounts of material and exams are not the easiest. NEVER gives partial credit for anything, tough grader. He makes it very difficult to even come close to a 4.0.

Great class! You'll learn a lot about historical society. Ask him for the powerpoint slides; it'll help you. He gives out vocab tests and reading quizzes but those aren't too hard if you've studied. Everyone freaks out about the different exams but if you're prepared, they aren't as hard as everyone thinks they are.

I'm not a history person at all but he teaches like the entire thing is one big story. My knowledge from the class is definitely learned and not memorized. I got a 3.0 in the class and I worked super hard for it, so it's NOT an easy class, but it is fun and I'm glad I took it.

He is a helpful, talented and interesting teacher, but be warned: he is a tough teacher. I got a 4.0, but I worked so hard for it. I'm pre-med and I wish all my science classes were taught by profs just like him, but its a lot of work for a gen ed class. Take him if you feel up to a challenge and if you're able to put in at least 20 hours a week.

I wish all my classes were taught this way - he gives you a packet of study questions before the (3) exams and spends the weeks prior to exams throughly going over every question. Notes are also easy to take because he gives you powerpoints. Very passionate and intelligent. Study for his exams though, because they are by no means easy.
