He is a really intelligent man and has a lot to teach you. It is a hard composition class though. He has times set up before an essay is due where you can come and talk to him. He also answers his email regularly. If you try in this class, you'll be fine.

This is an extremely difficult course; don't go into this class expecting an A, because chances are you won't get it. The professor is intelligent, and his discussions are usually very thought provoking. He will improve your writing skills, but at the expense of your GPA. I hated the class when I first, but as time passed I began to appreciate it.

this class was extremely difficult, and hard work did not pay off, there was a lot of long reading assignments and the class was sometimes boring, he is an extremely difficult grader, and is not open to interpretations of works that differ from his, AVOID TAKING MCARTHUR IS AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!

grades tough on essays, but it will make you better. I haven't found him to be opinionated, but he is straightfoward about your mistakes. He gives credit where credit is due, but you have to earn it. He is generally a nice guy if you talk to him, can be funny in class, so don't be intimidated by him just because he doesn't hand out A's.

He doesn't teach. He grades unfairly. He is very opinionated and grades towards his opinions. He doesn't ever say what he wants from your essays, and grades are scattered... I dont know of anyone who received a grade higher than a b- VERY UNCLEAR!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

Miserable. Got 5s on both AP English tests. Took the class hoping for an easy A. Got the highest grade in the class, a C+. Professsor will put you to sleep if the material hasn't already. His expectations are too high for this class. Made me not want to be an English major.

D-Mac is very unclear about assignments, but he is very clear on what you need to do in order to become a better writer. He threatened that I would go to hell if I put another comma splice in my next paper. Can be a nice guy if you let him. Took our class out to a greek restaurant and treated.

He's a tough grader. No one in my class made A's on anything. I thought for sure I would make a B- but ended up w/ an A-! If you put effort (half an hour) in your one-page responses you'll do fine. He made my writing much more concise and effective.

Just wow.... If you are the type of person who enjoys writing short (4-7) page essays, have perfict grammer, and never makes a mistake...then take him. If you are like the rest of us; hide.
