Eb knows his history down to incredible detail… thats what 85% of the tests are on… Name memorization and small key facts are absolutely required. You are not graded upon knowledge, but fact memorization.

His grading is hard to understand. If you don't spell everything out like you're writing for some recently-thawed caveman, you won't get full credit. Exams are hard, many of the questions focus on minutiae from the text. Sleepy classroom environment. He seems like a great guy, but I didn't enjoy his class. He also didn't show up on some days.

He is definietly not an easy teacher, but is not super hard. You need to take notes and review them thoroughly in order to pass the exams. He gives film critiques in which he is pretty particular, and even though I felt that I answered each question, I still got 8's out of 10. Study hard and you will pass the class with an A.

Not easy, but definitely not super hard. I took him for ICS 11 Roots of African-American Experience and got an A. All you need to do is watch the Roots series and follow along with the workbook, read the book Roots, attend the optional study sessions, read small portions of the textbook that you cover during review.

This teacher doesn't curve, in my class for example, half of people got C or D in midterm, he still doesn't curve. His test is hard. I asked him the question, he told me it's not really mentioned in the book, lol. He collects exam questions, so if you trying to review it for final, forget it. If you want to get good grade, take other class.

I took Eb Hunter's Roots class in 1988 at DeAnza. To this day, I remember his class as being interesting and thought provoking. I remember him as being a very kind, warm-spirited person. He was approachable and had a passion for teaching. Based on the comments I see here (20 + years later), this hasn't changed. Take his classes.

Overall, extremely nice guy! Kind of a harsh grader. Class consists of 4 movie critiques (10pts each)1 midterm(50 pts), and final (60 pts). Very boring class, atmosphere dulls you to sleep. Takes attendance, but doesn't go against your grade. If you don't show though, you will miss out on important information and/or a film that requires a critique

Study guide doesn't tell everything that will be on test, so read Hine,Hine,Harold book too. Overall, interesting class, good teacher.

Mr. Hunter is always really nice and considerate to every person in class.. He always has a strawberry milkshake which is cute i guess. Anyway the class is GREAT i would have never read the book ROOTS because of the length but it is really easy to get into. There are hardly any assignments only tests just do the readings.. everyone should take this

Professor Hunter is a great. The class is a must do. Lots of reading, Roots-Book and video series, An incredible class. This Professor has a true passion for teaching. A great class to learn about the truth behind how this country really treated others in the 1800's. Why are schools not teaching this? Take this class you will really enjoy it.

He is a great guy. Very easy going and one of those people who just seems to glow with kindness. You do have to do a lot of reading for the ICS 11 but the Roots book and the textbook are very fascinating and well written. It will make you wonder why your History teachers never taught you any of this. Everyone should take this class.

He is very interesting, and you watch a lot of movies in the class and write short papers about them. His class was relatively easy and I learned a lot. I would definitely recommend taking him for your ICS requirement. Final project was to go see a black theme movie in the theaters and write 1 page paper about it. Take his class! (and show up!)

he`s not That easy of a grader. He will ask for tons of extra detail on assignments, even though he did not specify it in the questions. Otherwise, his class was ok

Great lecturer. Makes the class very easy and clear; just take simple notes in class and you won't have to read (or even buy) the book. Multiple-choice tests, one video project (use Wikipedia, it's faster). Very nice guy. Highly recommended!

Mr Hunter is a really easy going, friendly, approachable and decent professor. The class is basically notes, films, and exams. You do have to do some reading in order to pass. He offers extra credit :) Overall, the class is a pretty easy A as long as you are somewhat conscious. Lovely guy, recommend him!

If you don't get an A in this class you're either lazy or an idiot. Seriously. Mr. Hunter is such a nice man but he doesn't require much thought in regards to exams and assignments. Material in lecture is very redundant. He offers 25 points extra credit when the class total is 150. To fill general requirements, I recommend taking this section.
