Comment:

Really friendly person, class can be kinda boring in class at times but she knows her stuff. She's really into the content she's teaching, but it can be a little dry. Quizzes are easy for Modern China because she gives review sheets. It's just so-so. No complaints but I didn't love it either.

Comment:

She's extremely nice, but she cannot teach. Class is so boring and dry and is basically just discussions. There's a LOT of readings in this class, A LOT. Also she counts attendance as a grade, so don't miss classes. Only bonus is there are no exams, however there are 2 papers and she is a tough grader. If you don't need this class, avoid it!

I took her modern china for a gen ed and its pretty chill. You just have to show up, because she goes over everything in class. If you want to understand it more you can read the textbook. It can get a little dry at times, and then i wanna knock myself out but if i can pass the class so can you.

Professor Harris is an excellent lecturer, teaches using a variety of media, and encourages her students to do as well as they possibly can. I have had her for three classes and have found these classes to be interesting and engaging. I highly recommend taking a class with her.

Comment:

Smart women who knows everything there is to know about China, but she does not have a clue how to convey information. Gives countless extra credit assignments which are doable if you live on campus. Assigns way too much reading, 5-6 sources per class and then she will only go over 1 of them. Responds to questions with unhelpful questions. TEDIOUS

Comment:

One of the most caring and dedicated professors I've ever had! Knows her subject inside out, and conveys her knowledge very well to the class. Plus, she's a fair grader, and is willing to go that extra mile to help out her students. Take her if you want to enhance your knowledge of Asian studies!

Comment:

Harris's classes can be difficult and boring if you aren't interested in the subject matter. Her classes may not be ideal for those trying to satisfy GE requirements. If you are interested in Asian Studies, however, her classes can't be beat. She is well-versed in Asian history and you can really learn a lot if you commit to completing the work.

Professor Harris is very passionate and involved in all her coursework and lectures. While some comments may say she's boring, it also may be because they're taking the class just to get the credits. While Chinese history isn't my forte,I recognized her sincere interest and passion which made me want to do well in her class to share in her interest

Horrible teacher! She put me to sleep in a class i was so eager to go to! i learned more by doing the research paper than i did all class she didnt give any exams which was great but the final project was a 12 page paper! only 3 assignments for the whole class and no written final! enjoyed the material but she is just a horrible teacher

I took modern China with her. The class is really boring, I am not learning anything. She is very ditzy and I have difficulty understanding what she wants us to do. Her class is really lame. Its ok for a History GE though. It isn't an easy A but its not hard either.

She's very friendly, and not that hard of a teacher. Would definitely take her again. To those who think that her work was writing intensive, you've obviously not taken any other, real history courses. This was one of the easier.

way too much work for a GE. lots of reading and writing. should have been writing intensive (4 papers and at least 10 1 pg journal entries). but maybe it was good that there were no tests because i didn't actually learn anything so it was easy to ****...she's a very nice person and an easy grader, but is not the best teacher in the world
