Comment:
The absolute easiest class I have taken in all my years of university. If you show up, listen to his lectures, and take notes (he gives you a sheet with notes on it, so just supplement) you will pass this class easily. There was not a single test/quiz/etc that I got below a 95% on. Just pay attention, and put your phone away for an hour.

He is very tough on rules, no phones, no excuses for missing tests, unless you are sick or have had a death in the family, and if you do miss for either of these reasons, you must provide a doctors note or proof from the obituary that family has died. Lectures are not really relevant, can just look up info for tests online. Hard to get a 4.0

Don't take Slack unless you are able to memorize lectures. He is a nice guy and is passionate about his teaching, however his tests are impossible to do well on unless you memorize the books and his lectures beforehand. This class was harder than my 300 level class.

Slack is a great teacher! While the class is mainly lecture based, the tests are only on a few selected books which are more interesting than other class reads. Tests are easy if you read the book, and the final is not cumulative. Lectures are interesting. There are no phones allowed, but if you can't stay off it for an hour, that's just sad.

Really nice guy, lectures had great content and were entertaining. Class is out of 400 points. 3x 50 pt book quizzes, 25 pt research paper, 2 surprise HW adding to 25, mid term and final 100 points each. All questions in book quizzes essay questions. He expects ALOT of writing and you won't get full credit without it.

Amazing lectures, open to questions, loves to talk after class or during his office hours if he has time. The class isn't hard as long as you pay attention and study the two hours per credit as your supposed to. The books he requires are tied to subject and interesting!! He has 2 major tests and 3 book tests that are the 90% of grade, study to ace!

Summer consolidated course. A lot of information that is covered in this class. Pay attention and take good notes. Focus on the highlighted historic figures and what dynasty they are associated with. Text book was of little use but it helped when looking for additional information about something specific. Must read assigned books to pass tests.

Professor Slack was a good teacher. His lectures were very interesting, and he genuinely wants you to succeed. He doesn't try to trick students and understands that this is a 100 level course. I would definitely recommend him. My only gripe is that we weren't allowed to use technology in his class, and i would have liked to use my laptop for notes.

Dr.Slack was by far the best teacher I've had in my college career. I LOVE how he lectures but puts the key notes on the overhead. These come in handy for the tests. No surprises on the tests; he gives you study guides that have everything that will be on the test on them. He is an awesome teacher, he doesn't try to make students fail! Goodlectures

Very passionate about his subject. Be warned, he's a bit of a stickler for grammar. Draws comparisons to Star Trek a lot, tries to be culturally relevant. Would definitely take another course with him.

He is a nice teacher. His final and midterm are easy. They are off his lecture. Don't buy the book. You could google the people. His 3 quizzes from the little books are hard. He gives you a study guide but will twist the Qs on the test so MAKE sure your read CAREFULLY!!! So buy his little books. Come to class because he has 2 take home quizes.

He is one of the best Eastern teachers I have ever had, so I have taken Hist 104, 310, and Hist 416. He is very funny, and the tests are great, depending on if you have studied. I would recommend not buying the textbook but buying the novels he assigns. Overall he is a wonderful teacher

Prof. Slack obviously enjoys his work. He is a great teacher, if you take an Asian history class take it from Slack. Don't disrespect him though because he will call you out, he's one of the few teachers who will call you out by name in front of the class and boot you out for the day. Just like any teacher: respect them and they respect you.

Don't buy the textbook. Just get the little novels for his quizzes on those. He gives you a handout on what will be covered so you really don't need to come to class but he does give two random map quizzes during the term that you can't get unless you're in class.
