Really nice and understanding guy. He isn't the most enthusiastic lecturer, but he gets his points across. He is also a VERY fair grader. His comments on papers are extensive and really helpful.

Comment:

Cannon knows his material, and although the class was dull, it was because of the lack of participation from the students. He is not an easy grader, but backs up his grades with strong comments. He gets papers back quickly and is VERY helpful in office hours. Although I am a bit disappointed in my grade, I have improved greatly as a writer.

Comment:

Cannon is an excellent teacher and knows his material. He generally keeps conversation alive, but if you cannot deal with sometimes monotone lectures it may not be the class for you. I enjoyed the topic and his teaching style, as well as the extensive/helpful comments he makes on each paper. He is a tough grader though so beware.

He was a little dull when talking about the reading. He tries to spark discussion about the readings (which there are A LOT of. Speak up in class or you'll fall asleep. He is a VERY fair grader and is really helpful, especially if you have a good reason to turn in something late. He gives a ton of feedback on papers, which is really helpful.

Good teacher. When I got my first paper back I was surprised by the grade, but after reading his comments completely understood how I could improve my writing. Class can get dull at times but he is fair and will not think twice to give you an extension or help you thoroughly on a paper. Grading is harsh but worth it if you want to improve writing.

Cannon, although only a grad-student, is pretty knowledgable in his field. He's easily understanding when it comes to turning in assignments late due to unforseen circumstances. He's good- he knows what he's talking about. If you can keep up in the reading (it's a lot), the discussions are pretty interesting too.

Okay, so the classes are boring - sitting through hour and a half lectures aren't exactly my idea of fun either. But Prof. Cannon is a genuinely understanding guy - he'll give you paper extensions if you just ask. Out of all the writing and English courses I've taken -he's been the most fair grader.

cannon sucks. he gives you confusing assignments and then grades them harshly. he can talk his head off too, thats for sure. he manages to say a whole hell of a lot without really saying anything important during his lectures. BOOOORING!!!!

This class sucks. He told us Moby Dick was going to be the only thing on the final, then says everything since the 1st midterm would be on it. He grades harshly and the class is extremely boring. He lectures for an hour and a half to 30 students.
