Attendance not mandatory but you are graded on participation so you have to go to class. There is so much reading but if you actually do it you will find the class much more interesting and it is much easier to write the essays. He was a good teacher and the class was not too hard. You are graded on 2 essay tests and 2 papers.

Dr. Meeks is an amazing professor! His lectures are very detailed which can be a little intimidating at first, but if you show up to class daily and put in your very best effort, you will certainly learn a lot. LOTS of reading. Very approachable both in and outside of class. He clearly loves what he does and respects his students. Highly recommend!

Textbooks are very interesting and relevant. Prof seems knowledgeable and nice, but also seems like he would be much better to take in person. Helpful when needed. Quizzes and discussions straight-forward. Essays partially graded on subjective style choice..

Not only did I have Dr. Meeks for a class but he is my advisor. When I had some family issues come up he was very understanding and did all he could to help with whatever I needed! Will definately be taking my senior writing class with him.

Meeks lectures a lot but if you have a honest interest in the subject matter than it's not bad at all, but if you don't, than I can see how is class might seem really boring. He dresses well and is very articulate and mature. Refined.

Absolutely horrible professor! He has discussions in class but only likes opinions that are similar to his. Spends most of the course talking about the very beginnings of Chicano history like the Spanish conquistadors &**** & like no time on when the south west became a part of the US. This class is ridiculous! Dont take it!

Horrible professor! His lectures were incredibly boring and all he talked about was the book he was supposedly writing. His papers were extremely hard and he likes to quiz on the readings. He likes discussions, but they're not open discussions. Just say what he wants to hear and you'll be fine. Avoid his class at all costs.

Dr Meeks is a very informative instructor, you will need to take lots of notes in the class. the material is very interesting. Quizes and Tests are overly easy, but papers are very challenging and are graded extremely harsh by the TA who is a pompus idiot. Overall good teacher.
