Professor Freeman was the worst professor I've ever had in my WHOLE LIFE. He reads straight from the book and doesn't do any example practice problems. He said that he would curve the class after the final then last minute right before he submitted final grades to the registrar did not curve and did not tell anyone about the last minute change

you can totally not go to the class. I really CAN'T hear him at all, and he is just reading his ppt which comes from the textbook. So STUDY ON YOUR OWN! Our TA really helps a lot. His grading criteria is so vague and even out TA does not know it until he gives the grade.

Comment:
Prof. Freeman is a very mediocre lecturer. He reads off from the slides (basically snippets of the book), SO TAKE NOTES FROM BOOK first. I barely attended class b/c I found that reading from the book was better. I received an overall A according to the TA that score the exams. prof. F is unresponsive and untrue to his grading scale. BEWARE. >:(

Comment:
Professor Freeman is not the best professor. His lectures are purely from the textbook and majority of the time just reads over his slides. In doing so, most stopped attending after the first exam. Just read the book on your own and do the in-chapter and the beginning/more surface level end-chapter problems since there are no mechanisms involved.

Comment:
Freeman's lecture is always a powerpoint of the textbook pages. You don't need to go to lecture, but attend discussion. You don't need to know mechanisms so the tests are a mixture of whats the product and some conceptual questions. It's not hard if you have time to read through the chapters and do in book problems.

Worst professor I have ever taken at UCI. Lectures are super dry, shows up late to class, doesn't show up to exams. Pretty much a self teach class. Average on one of the midterms was 38/120. Doesn't curve the class so the average grade was a D. Avoid at all cost.

Comment:
The worst professor of my undergrad career. His lectures were so bad that literally only 4-5 people showed up after the first midterm. Highly unorganized, unclear and unstructured. Worst of all he decided that since the students didn't master the material enough so he lowered the curve mean. I got 1 SD above the overall curve and got a C. STAY AWAY

Freeman is not the most exciting professor. However, that does not mean he is a bad professor! I guarantee, most of the people who complain about him DO NOT even go to class or OH. He is very straight-forward and helpful if you actually seek help. Really nice man, and his exams are VERY FAIR if you keep up! Super straight-forward, would take again.

READ THIS CAREFULLY His lectures are honestly very boring. He mumbles alot and it is hard to hear. You will learn very little from his lectures. You have to self-study for the exams. Go watch lecture videos in youtube. Go to discussion sections. SOLVE ALL THE BOOK PROBLEMS. Freeman's test is much easier than other classes.

Horrible. He is soft-spoken/mumbles. His midterms are like the problems from the text, but DIFFICULT. Assigns large point values per exam problem (like 30pts a problem). So a simple mistake = DEATH especially with synthesis problems. REALLY good with curves. Final was multiple choice... Very unexpected. Take him if you're good at self learning.

If you take Freeman, you will be studying entirely by yourself. A horrible teacher, but tests are GENERALLY straight forward. Only teacher that loves nomenclature. Almost all of his problems are all or nothing, and be prepared to have to argue for points.

Seems to be a nice guy but just a terrible teacher. MT 1 he graded so harshly and made mistakes, which he fixed weeks later, caused students to have to go to his office hours which people never do, and fight for points back. I did this and he was just so cold and not encouraging. Failure as a teacher... If you take him, prepare to self study.

His tests are not that bad if you do ALL the practice problems (like every odd one). In addition, he's really helpful during office hours. If you show up, he genuinely does care about you. You just have to be motivated. This is probably the only doable 'A' in ochem.

If you do ALL the problems, like he suggests, you'll be fine. This is how I got A's both quarters and currently have an A this quarter only by going to lecture twice in three quarters. He is EXTREMELY helpful during office hours. Exams are NOT "cheapshots," and come directly from the book. Its the unmotivated that can't teach themselves ochem.

Tells you to do homework problems, but ends up cheapshotting you with eccentric questions on exams.
