A legit, well-respected, professional artist whose art sells for 6 figures+ if you are just fulfilling core credits, he might be a bit overwhelming. passionate, a little esoteric. It's unbelievable that we have such a qualified prof. at a school with such a bare-bones art program. Senior FA majors - get a directed study with him. so worth it.

Read your textbook listen to keywords that he points out in lectures, and take notes on readings/lectures. He gives you MANY opportunities to pass his class! I MEAN MANNNYYY OPPORTUNITIES!!! Just stay on top of your note taking you'll do fine!

This is a really good instructor if you want to learn something about art. If you just want an easy A then don't take this guy. I would highly recommend him though because I learned quite a bit about Art.

I would definitely take him again for another Art class. You have to take notes and study, not an easy A at all. There are 3 test, quizzes, and projects. If you show up and show interest in class, he will be very helpful with you. Also gives extra credit that will help out A LOT if you are having a hard time with class.

Don't really understand why this professor has a red chili but this professor is over 50 and not "hot". Anyways, took him during the summer session. No quizzes/online assignments. Must attend class because he lectures over new material everyday; this material that you take notes on will be on the test. Study your notes thoroughly. Some field trips.

STAY AWAY! Newsum is pretentious and condescending to students. He plays favorites and makes the classroom environment awkward and stiff. The worst part was when he talked about his own artwork (which was almost every class). Avoid this guy if you are serious about art.

Professor Newsum is AWESOME.You must study but he makes the class interesting so that you would want to learn.Tests are somewhat hard,but if you underdstand the material,u would be fine.Definitely not an easy A,u must study.I would definitely take him again and recommend anyone to take him :)

Very Passionate, funny, open, Interesting, entertaining and enthusiastic. FIELD TRIPS ! I seriously thought it was going to be boring and a lot of reading but no not at all. Wants all students to pass and learn. He is one of the best I hope to buy one of his famous paintings one day.. :)

yey i pass so glad u would be too! allitis just memorize terms&Bio date&year of picture& 1 essaypaper about what has been cover from the book on two types of paint&drawing. u must have lots of time to think about it b/c u will have two fildtrips that going to be on the test just bring paper&pen i should have done it. oh well.hes a great teacher :)

Pretty good professor. Knows his stuff and wants you to know it too. His tests are pretty easy if you STUDY!! Take good notes and read the book and it's and easy A! Slack off and don't put any effort and your grade will reflect. Definitely not a blow off course but highly recommend that you take him!

Back in school after 20 years. Had to take an Art class and picked this one on a whim. Glad I did! Prof was knowledgable in the topic and made the class interesting. Field trips are madatory but worth the effort. Learned lots of things I would have never been exposed to...Highly recommend this instructor
