TERRIBLE TEACHER. MAKES THE EXAMS THE DAY BEFORE AND USES MATERIAL WE HAVE NOT LEARNED YET. Tests are a majority of our grade. Lab is hours long but does not do much for your grade. Terrible set up and terrible teacher.

This class was ridiculously hard. Nearly impossible to pass the exams, but he will drop the lowest which is good. I 100% do not recommend taking this class if you don't have to.

It's a difficult class for those not interested in geology (like myself) but 80% of people in lecture are shopping and what not on their laptops. Listen, take notes, and ask questions. The material goes in great depth but so long as you study you'll be fine. He drops the lowest exam. Clearly a researcher more than a professor but TAs are helpful.

Okay... Everyone literally hates him BUT if you go to class, sit in the front row, and pay attention/take notes you will do fine. The people that do bad are the ones that don't pay attention and then fail the tests. Yes the tests are hard but study for them and you will get at least a B. Labs are easy, just go. Never miss class. Try hard!!!!!!

He's not the best professor I've ever had but definitely not as bad as people make him out to be. He makes class pretty easy - Gives out homework you can get an A on, drops 1 exam grade, gives some extra credit, and posts all lectures online. To do good in his class, you HAVE to really listen and take notes but that's all. You don't need the book!

Kinda seems like he just doesn't care. He'll spendwaste the first 20-30min of a class talking about we should change our study habits, as opposed to actually teaching the material. I had to spend a lot of his lectures, looking up terms and topics on the internet due to his lack of clarity and inability to answer anyones' questions.

Frank is without a doubt, the worst teacher I have ever had at University of Kentucky. If you have to take a class of his because your major requires it, I strongly suggest changing majors or transferring. His clarity is awful and he intentionally puts questions on his tests on topics that were never discussed (Trust me, I asked him directly).

One of the worst professors I've ever had. You could tell he really didn't care about what we thought of him or the class, and therefore sparked no one's interest. If he didn't have a helpful TA or lab assistants, I would've dropped the class. Avoid this professor at all costs.

His lectures are useless, as are his PowerPoints. They're all pictures with no explanations. He needs to stick to research and give up his teaching position. Do whatever you can to get a different professor.

Comment:
Not an effective teacher. He spends half of every lecture either redundantly reviewing, telling not to live somewhere cause it is unsafe geologically, or telling us on how we are bad students who don't know how to study. More than slightly insulting considering when he does teach, it is boring, confusing, and unclear.

Professor Ettensohn's lectures are very confusing. Hard to understand and grasp what he wants you to know for the tests. The tests are multiple choice and only thirty questions - the class average on the first test was a low D. If you don't go to class - you won't know anything come test time. Not a bad guy, just not a great professor.

One rule: If he likes you, you will get a good grade. He didn't like me. Do the work, and agree with him a lot and you'll do fine. Pretend to LOVE the earth too.
