I took two classes w/ him - each time I thought he used the class as a showcase for his own bad sense of humor. He was always name-dropping and making stupid jokes. He was condescending and insincere -- what are these "writing workshops"? Never had those. He promised me a letter of rec for a program I wanted to get into and he never wrote it.

i used to partcipate, but he would always give a kinda "EHHH" response to anything that wasnt exactly what he was looking for. other than that he was alright, he's very helpful with the papers and does many workshops to make us feel ready.

gets material across in a way that you don't even know it's happening. extreamly intelligent without acting superior. if you can impress him by doing some thinking on your own, you will be all set. teaches good classes and enjoys the material. def. take if you have even a little effort in you.

The class is great, I love the books we are covering, but he is utterly wrong when it comes to his oppenion on certian directors. Lets say Chris Columbus v Alfonso Cuaron... Cuaron is not the better director and you know it! *huff huff* I'm better now.

Class has been enjoyable. You can tell Garland really enjoys teaching this stuff. I only took this for a GER, but I've learned a lot, and I've been exposed to some great books that otherwise I wouldn't have read. If you aren't a geek I warn you, be careful, because you might get lost in class.

Kimmer is a brilliant, warm-hearted, genuinely friendly geek. He has an amazing grasp of his field and can give you great guidance. He is a bit of a procrastinator, but he'll make good on what he says. Highly recommended for anything. And he gets extra points for the cheesy pop culture references.

AY YA YI!!! I am so intimidated in this class... if you take him as a prof, just be prepared to do lots of reading and participate a lot in class. I find his class VERY hard and VERY difficult.. good luck!
