Funny, offbeat, sometime just plain weird, but always brilliant - an accomplished and recognized scholar and a great teacher as well. Even if you are not majoring in classics or ancient history, I highly recommend taking one of his introductory courses as a gut r filler. You will be engaged, entertained, and learn alot from a first-rate mind.

Very funny in a unique way. Agree that grading is done in a seemingly random fashion, like he closes his eyes and randomly writes grades on assignments and tests. Take him pass fail and sit back and enjoy the show.

WACKED!! Seriously though, he is a first-rate teacher and scholar. Widely published and respected in his field. Grading, as others point out, is without rhyme or reason so beware - it does not pay off to work harder or do great work. Actually stood up on the table for a lecture.

Great, FUNNY (in a goofy way) prof. Spastic grading though (the last shall be first and the first shall be last in this class). I barely went to class, wrote a plagarized paper, and somehow beat my roomate who is like the best history student at Trin and writes like Hemingway. TAs do some grading so that might have been it. Im not complaining.

Brilliant and often hilarious lectures. Has a gift for vivifying the subject matter. One drawback: grading seems arbitrary and unstructured. Sometimes gives high grades for average work and low grades for above average work. Other than that, he is an excellent professor.
