Comment:

I started out respecting Prof. Gish, but she eventually alienated me pretty badly. For a self-proclaimed champion of liberal values, she is markedly closed off to others' points of view and largely indifferent to information that contradicts her established notions. She will self-righteously berate you at length if you engage her on certain topics.

I was completely disappointed by this class. Gish is a legend, and has a wealth of information to draw from. But I learned almost nothing from Gish about the material we were studying, and way more about Gish's pretensions about than I had any interest about. Perhaps one person too many told her she was great, because now it's all she talks about.

Comment:

Nancy is extremely knowledgeable from the English language to Scotland to our rights to history. It is very clear that she knows her stuff and always enjoys telling little stories. If you need help she won't hesitate to schedule a little meeting. Sadly she is retiring after this year, so try to take a class with her next semester if possible!

Remarkable woman! So passionate about teaching and very interested in her students' opinions. Please take her class! She is definitely one of the best professors that USM has to offer. She is tough, but she is fair and the knowledge that one can gain from her classes is totally worth it!

Gish is a remarkable professor with a brilliant yet compassionate mind. Recently discovered Youtube, and it changed her world. Adorable. She loves students who speak up, so don't just sit there and take notes. If you experience a crisis midsemester, she's very generous with extensions if you're a good student.

She was extremely intimidating at first, but if you can look past the sometimes harsh exterior she is a very nice woman who truly cares about her students. She is tremendously passionate about her class topics and loves when students have opinions and speak them. don't be scared by others' comment!!

Diverse selection of material to read, syllabus is clear and always followed. Attendance is mandatory as is note taking (handwritten only, you will not use a laptop in her class). She is an EXCELLENT editor and professor. If you stick it out, you will learn to write a paper properly.

Worst lady I have ever met in my life. She does not explain things well at all, she expects her students to already know everything before the enter the classroom, if I honestly already knew the information WHY WOULD I TAKE THE CLASS!!!! WORST LADY I HAVE EVER MET! STAY AWAY FROM HER CLASS!

I absolutely adore this woman. She thinks a lot of her students, and, accordingly, expects a lot from them. If you are open to it, and willing to work, you will learn more from this woman than any other writing professor. Learning aside, her classes are just a lot of fun. 2-1/2 hour class, but I NEVER looked at my watch.

Gish rocks! She is tough on grammar and form but wow, will you learn! I learned more than just writing. It is like taking history, civics, womens studies, gov't, literature and writing all in one course. You will not be disappointed! GO GISH!!!!!
