Dr. James is wonderful. His Intro to Philosophy class changed my life when I attended college many years ago. I have him to thank for freeing my mind and teaching me how to approach religion with logic and common sense.

Attendance is not required, but if you skip class all the time, you will get behind. He knows the material and can speed through it too fast without breaking it down. He doesn't like you asking peers for help and talking. He gives test when he thinks he has covered the material. There isn't a specified date.

Dr. James is a fantastic and life-changing professor. I have taken both of his courses and (though it was not easy) received As in both. Highly recommend.

I don't know what the other person in Dec. is talking about. I took the PHIL 3702 class in Fall 2013, and I don't remember that at all. Professor James is never shy about correcting someone who is incorrect, but he's never overtly mean about it. I thoroughly enjoyed the class, myself.

I loved this class. Prof. James was thorough and quite knowledgeable about the material. This is definitely a class that requires an open mind, however. He doesn't tiptoe around the issues, and he doesn't handhold to make sure students can handle the subject matter.

This professor the worst I have ever had.He seems to teach about his personal beliefs and selected many works that favored atheism rather than selecting a balanced amount of atheistic and theistic works. He publicly criticized a student for "not knowing what he was talking about".Also he allowed very little time for discussion/ question period.

This class is all about logic. If you can write and use concrete logic to back up your statements when writing papers, then you can state your opinion and he will still give you a good grade. You do not have to agree with what he says.

Gene James is not a very useful professor. When I asked for help after receiving a poor grade on an essay, he laughed in my face. I kept a manuscript of his lectures, yet received barely passing grades on every test. I would not recommend, especially if this class is not required. He wants his opinions spat back at him and cares nothing of yours.

All tests were take-home essays except final. this is a plus because you have a long time to work on it but need to write a lot to answer thoroughly. Must be willing to take a non-traditional view of Christianity. Some were offended and dropped. He answers questions but is more focused on completing his lectures (which I think is a good thing).

Professor James is great! He teaches because he loves it, and WILL NOT give a grade a student doesn't deserve. If you want to take a class from an extremely knowledgeable professor who is passion ate about teaching, take one of his courses. However, if you are not willing to put in a little work and want to skim by, this is not for you.

I can say the least, this class was interesting, but a difficult class. He speaks like the textbook, but he also wrote the book. If your a slow learner and struggle with math/critical thinking....You will pay the PIPER.

Interesting but difficult class. He speaks like the textbook, but he also wrote the book. I'm on the fence whether I'd recommend taking the class or not.

Straight lecture. Usually no one asks questions. Requires a few papers, no quizes or anything. He grades leniently and drops lowest grade. He is happy to talk to the students outside of class. Nice guy, but a little one sided in his coverage of atheist and theist arguments, in favor of the atheists. Doesn't care much for the arg. for existence of G

Class was great ! Attendance mandatory, big part of your grade. Explains things in detail. He reads sections of the essays, highlight those sections because he highlights every answer to the questions he asks on the exam. Exams mostly take home essays, there is a final. No need to read ahead, he goes over it. Great Teacher !

I loved this class. Dr. James presents complicated arguments in clear, easy to undestand ways. If you're narrow minded and not willing to question things, don't take him - or any philosophy course for that matter. Otherwise, he's great!

The textbook is the Bible. He gives his opinions on it without mentioning any other opinions. He doesnt like questions either. Basically the class is a Christian bash-fest. I dropped it because it was just pathetic...also he a little creepy.

I took this course because I thought it would be easy. It WASN'T. It was a 3-hour course, 1 time per week. Most of the time there was no break in the middle. Dr James knows his stuff, but the Philosophy he teaches requires thought and interest. Grade rests on 2 essays. If you're not in class it will hurt you. Final exam was open book. NOT easy...
