Comment:
Be prepared to be dictated to as any original ideas that fail to align with his own interpretation are seen as point blank wrong. Furthermore, office hours are apparently only meant to stroke his massive ego, not to help you understand or discuss your paper. He assumes the worst in each person and it becomes obvious in class.

Although I took this professor for a class that didn't really count for anything more than units, he was one of those professors who you could tell cared about more than just what you learned in that one course. Speaking with him before/after class and in office hours really helped me with my college career. Would definitely take again!

Professor Cohen is awesome. His course (the one I took was the American Novel) was one of the most challenging English courses I've ever taken, but it was worth it. He pushes his students, genuinely cares about them, and wants them to succeed. If you're up for the challenge, take one of his courses! He's fun to talk to and always willing to help!

Dr. Cohen is bomb. He's very passionate about his material and appreciates any sort of contribution during discussions. He's also helpful if you see him during office hours, especially if you want to discuss an essay - he'll tell you exactly what to work on and rewrite. More interested in your understanding of the text instead of just a grade.

Super obsessed with Moby Dick, so if you do not like this book, do not even take this class. He is funny and witty, but do not let that fool you. He cares A LOT about his students, so if you are not doing that well in class, do not expect a good grade. I feel like the key to his class is getting to know him personally, or dont count on a good grade

Extremely smart and really fun. He doesn't care what you think as long as you're thinking. Try hard and he'll notice. You can't get a bad grade if you try.

He a really nice teacher with an odd obsession with Moby Dick LOL. He's understanding and if you go in for office hours, its pretty useful. As for his reading quizzes, he kind of gives you the answers but he does do cold calling (looks at the roll call sheet and just picks a random name). You should definitely read the assigned texts though. :]

I cannot stress this enough, but I warn you now not to take this guy. His obsession with Moby Dick makes him the perfect person to teach the course. He was helpful, but he makes you feel like you are useless without his guidance. Grading is fair and someone should tell him he needs to get rid of the earrings. Take him at your own risk.

Cohen is partial to some students. He speaks to the students who he has had before and seems to grade them easier. Papers I put effort into I received 75 and 70; papers I did not put any effort into, I received 85 and 89. There was no TA but a graduate student graded some papers. His grading was more lenient compared to Cohens. Do not take anything

This professor is obsessed with certain ideas of literature and he wants the students to think exactly like him otherwise he grades them down. He cares to meet at office hours to help but only because he has so much to say he talks more during those times. It seems as though he wants everyone to think and write like him. If you don't you're screwed

I came so incredibly close to dropping this class first quarter, and now I'm glad I didn't. I was really struggling with the class because I was always shy to speak out because it was huge, and I knew nobody. Lots of allnighters! But I met w/ him in office hours, and he really helped me out alot.

He was intimidating because he likes outspoken students, and I was one of the quieter ones. But he made the discussion interesting and it wasn't that hard (just rewrite papers and he'll be only too willing to give a better grade).
