Course: toxicology/radiation, non-major. Hoffman is an excellent lecturer. His notes are very concise and he is extremely intelligent & well versed in his field. Didn't need office hours or even to read 95% of the material save for handouts, only studied prior to quizzes and did well. If you can't understand what he's saying, biology isn't for you.

He is a great guy but not good for non-majors. His lectures are easy enough to follow but his toxicants/radiation class's entire grade is tests which are hard to study for. Helpful in office hours but way too complicated for a non-majors class. I hear he's a lot better than others in the department though.

I had him for Botany lab, and i found him to be really helpful. He is a really nice teacher, and his lab quizes are fair yet still very tricky. He grades fair, and he understands that for some of us botany can be tricky - especially the life cycles. He also helped to write the textbook that we use - so he truly knows his stuff!!!

I had the hoff for botany and loved his class! I don't even like plants -- he's so passionate about teaching that you can't help but like the class (and he's funny). His tests are tough, but if you keep up with the material you'll do well.

I had him for Botany and his lectures are REALLY boring. He doesnt interact with the class at all for lectures but instead speaks the entire time without any breaths. Its impossible to pay attention and ask questions because all you do is take notes the entire time. I would avoid him at all costs. He made for an awful freshman first semester.

My favorite biology class yet. The class was fascinating, Hoffmann was great, but it was an insane amount of work. He expects a lot but it's not impossible at all to do well.

I never went to his office hours, but he was very helpful in answering quick questions after class. By the first test, you'll know how much work you need to do in this and any future classes of his you take to get the grade you want. I liked him better for botany; genetics got really boring if he didnt make any jokes in class.

Hoffmann had a really clear method of teaching. Nothing on his tests was a surprise. He has a certain way he likes to do things and keeps you on top of studying all the time. His class made me like botany!

Professor Hoffmann is a decent professor. He knows his stuff, and teaches it well. Tests are easy, but lab quizzes are rough. Luckily, they don't count for much.

I had him 10 years ago - He was arrogant, demeaning, aloof, and treats women terribly. He is only interested in the ideas of the men who do research for him. God forbid a woman have a brain. He told me I had no potential - I am now a biotech executive.
