Comment:
This was the hardest class I've ever taken (2nd Soph semester). Grant is a nice guy, but his lectures only discuss basic scenarios, unlike the complex ones on the homeworks and exams. Go to every recitation. The homework is extremely difficult, but luckily the exams are correlate specifically with what the homework is. Just make sure you get the HW

conveys the true ideals of being a real world physicist. Very articulate and helpful (during classroom hours) he's a busy guy so dont expect a response immediately when asking for help by email, and he'll hang onto your lab reports for a while, but he's understanding of the student situation. Stresses learning and analysis over rote knowledge.

Extremely repetitive. He reviews about 3 weeks of stuff at the beginning of every class rendering half the class useless. No idea how to use his computer and wasted much time trying to figure it out. Does not round final grades, 89.6 got me a B+ (my own fault for not doing HW). Exams are super easy to pass 101 and 109 were my grades. Eh for a prof.

material can be hard to understand at first but he knows how to teach it. he will teach you the long way to do the problems but it helps in the end. textbook is probably not worth getting, i never opened it and did very well. tests are long but he doesnt grade the whole thing soo you dont have to finish to pass. being a girl looks like helps 2 lol

I had little knowledge coming into the class, but came out of the class learning quite a lot. I very much enjoyed O'Rielly's classes. He's very clear, willing to answer questions, and can be very humorous. Admittedly not an easy class, but if you put in the time and do the work it is very do-able. Wish he was teaching 114 this semester

by far one of the top professors in the department. always willing to help if you need it both during and outside of office hours. homework can be challenging, but he never lets you flouder. makes the material easy to understand. he's funny and makes class fun. "only liking females" is an easy way out of doing poorly in his class.

I definitely struggled with this class but O'Rielly was always there to help. He will meet with you during office hours or whenever is convenient for you and he is extremely helpful in going through problems step by step. Hwk is tough at times but he allows u extra credit to make up for unfinished assignments. Def take him if u can. :)

Great teacher. He is always at his office hours, grades fairly, and makes class interesting using keypads and powerpoints. He doesn't post answers to homework online but he does post the notes.

He SUCKS. Pulls everything he teaches out of his ass. Contradicts himself constantly. HW/exams are ridiculous, lectures are even worse. Says he'll post notes/HW solutions, but doesn't. Never hands anything back. Virtually impossible to get an A, unless you're female, then it's an automatic A++.

Only helpfull if you have two X chromosones. He will help anyone who comes and talks to him, but I always got the impression that he'd rather be doing something else. Oh, and I have isssues with multiple choice on math-heavy tests.

I think O'Rielly was a good prof. Granted there were power point problems but if you did the homework and the practice tests how could you do poorly in this class?

STOP FLIRTING WITH THE GIRLS! That's our job. Powerpoint problems all year long are fun because it takes away from the class. This has to be the longest 50 minute class ever.

Expect to crack open the book and do the learning outside class. His stupid powerpoint slides are boring and always have typos. He flirts with girls when he should be teaching.

I hate this guy. He definitely favors the women. His tests were ridiculous last semester. Try doing like 15-20 Physics questions, each with a few parts in 50 minutes. Get a clue O'Reilly.
