He is very sweet and you can tell that he cares about you and the class. Test heavy (we have 21 quizzes over the quarter), but they are all open note (except the final). I highly suggest splitting the work you receive up with your group he gives you on the first day. When writing papers for him MAKE SURE to check grammar.

He expects you to write a couple essay, but isn't available to see your paper before you turn it in. He grades mostly on grammar not content. There are about 100 questions to answer for each of the nine plays you read. The questions are trivial. Midterm is a timed 90 minute writing on the first five plays you read. Good Luck!

Good professor, lecture heavy. Essays graded harshly make sure you know your grammar. Can use notes during quizzes and study the quizzes before the final.

Lectures and readings are very important in this class. You have to really pay attention and take good notes. Weekly quizzes are open notes so don't skip class! He is a very sweet man and his lectures are subtly laced with humor if you're able to catch it. He's also very helpful. I got good grades on my papers without much effort

Not good, he gives hella quizzes and the papers are super hard to get a good grade on. I received a 5 on my AP Lit and Lang tests and I received 70%'s on essays when kids who wrote just to please him received 95%. Bogus

I thought Smith was a cool dude. Once you put aside his age and stupid jokes, you'll enjoy him. Class was graded by 20 quizzes (u can use notes so easy A), 2 papers plus a midterm and a final. The 2 papers can be re written an infinite amt. He drops the 2 lowest quizzes at the end. advice, do the work and find a buddy to help w reading questions.

This class has its pros and cons. The class is only on MWF but the majority of those days, there are quizzes. You are in a assigned group and you're in that group for the whole quarter. We get together before a quiz and discuss answers. There is a paper due every Saturday but it is distributed among the people in your group.

Lots of quizzes in class but all open note. Do the homework you will do fine in the class. Attendance not mandatory but should go because every time theres class theres a quiz. 2 papers and a midterm paper. Final on all the quizzes overall, not open note.

I have never seen a more complicated grading scale that is not reflected on canvas. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you can only take the quizzes in class, typically two a week.

This class was basically us reading A LOT of material every night and answering A LOT of grammar questions on the reading that you have a quiz on the next day and never talk about again. The final was a compilation of the grammar level questions on the readings. We had about 530 questions to study. I didn't learn much of anything in the class.

Lots of reading and you take an open note quiz everyday of class over reading. You have guided reading questions that help you for the quiz and his lecture is long in the beginning of class. Not sure what grade is other than papers until end of quarter. He is fair, but if you want a good great you got to work. Don't miss class.

Impossible to determine your grade while the class is going. Touchy, conceited, easily offended. SUPER OLD. Don't buy the textbook- you can get Shakespeare plays online for free.

Professor Smith is a very knowledgeable person and has a lot of passion for the subject. The lectures for this long, but very interesting. What I didn't like was the reading questions. For each reading you must answer a huge list of questions. It detracted from the reading and made it more about answering simple questions rather than understanding.

Do not take this class from Smith. All he does most days is lecture for 15 minutes, then tells you to get into groups so you can compare study guide answers. I learned nothing from this class, it's just a grind to find the answers to the stupidly trivial questions he asks. Quiz every day (MWF) and the final's closed notes is over the ~500 quiz Qs.

After I got the textbook, I was really nervous for the class because it was over 2,000 pages, but you don't even read half of it. Smith's lectures are totally irrelevant, but it's on the quizzes. Quizes are open note and same questions as the hw, so you have the answers right in front of you. He is not helpful however so make friends in class.

I really enjoyed his Shakespeare class - he's super knowledgeable and obviously loves the subject matter - quiz is all open notes - papers were a breeze and attendance on non quiz days is not mandatory - can be a bit dry at times for sure but I learned a lot and enjoyed the class over all

The midterm is in class prompt. He expects you to read in between the lines of what he wants. The questions he gives are pointless because it makes the students not read for the story but read to get the answers. The final. It is memorizing 320 questions that aren't higher level thinking questions.

it is the structure of the final exam that is clearly outdated. You have 19 quizzed throughout the quarter which are open note and the final will only be those questions but YOU DON'T KNOW WHICH ONES questions will be on the final so you have to review over 200 questions from all the quizzes combines and hope you remember the ones that show up.

Take this class. I have it MWF. It's supposed to last an hour and 25 min but it's always a lot less than that. He's super nice and if you answer the study guide questions you'll get 100% on every quiz. If you don't get some of the questions you can ask your group before the quiz or even ask him. The papers are really easy. Highly reccomend:D
