Comment:
Prof Francis lectures well. The tests can get you if you don't study, and the papers were a bit long but simple to write up. No curving or extra credit, but it's offset slightly by different weights for the exams & CogLabs being free points.

I don't love his teaching style- it is hard to follow at times, and it's easy to get lost. STUDY FROM THE STUDY GUIDE in his classes. Don't memorize answers to practice exams because he will test you on conceptual knowledge. Four, 3-5 page SINGLE SPACED papers were also tedious, but they're just graded on completion. Is very funny at times though!!

Lectures are REALLY interesting, and he manages to give a real-life application for every single lecture. I've found his lectures incredibly relevant. No textbook. I took the class as pass/fail and didn't write any of the papers, but there were four 3-5 page single spaced papers, which seemed to be graded mostly on completion. Exams are fairly easy

Tediously long papers (four 4-page minimum single spaced, etc). 4 Midterms which many questions made specifically to trick you on what you studied. Straight grading scale which made it so only about 10 people out of 130 got an A- or better (only 4 A's or above iirc). Despite all this, he teaches well & is a nice guy, just too traditional & stubborn

The tests require you to be SUPER specific and were hard. The material is confusing, an I actually like psychology and pay attention. When you ask him to clarify or explain in a different way he usually just says the same thing, and it isn't straight forward. He seems like a really smart, nice guy, but I just had trouble with his teaching style.

Very very easy class. I was shocked at how poorly people did, the questions were very straight forward and he provided you with everything you needed to know. There is no book, which is nice because there are no reading assignments. The lectures are recorded and online so you don't have to go to class, although he does take random attendance.

Not a psych major and I thought this class was infinitely easy. Went through study guides once before tests. Didn't pay attention in class at all. Final grades yielded more D's and F's than A's and B's though, so if you lack in common sense you may want to steer clear. Stick to the study guides... you'll get an A. Doesn't return tests though...

I had him for cognitive psychology. His lectures are very clear and engaging, and he's funny sometimes. There ARE cases of him being opinionated, but it doesn't at all impact grading, tests, etc. As mentioned, there is no text book. There are 'homeworks' and random attendance checks. Pay attention, study a bit, and you can get a good grade.

Not a very difficult class. He did a great job at explaining all the material and was funny in lecture. Some people may find him opinionated, but I thought he was funny. He makes study guides that are very similar to the exams, so if you know these you will do fine on the exams. Also, no book is used, so you save some money on that.

His tests for 200 were tricky and he's not a nice person. he's really rude, extremely opinionated, and doesn't care about other people. I dropped his class I could not deal with him anymore. If Karpicke or Witt are teaching and fits in your schedule, take their classes. Much better!

Based on the previous comments he is not a very good PSY 201 prof but I had him for PSY 200 and he was fine. Class was very interesting and he was pretty funny at times. He is kinda opinionated but that doesn't make it a worse class. No textbook but the notes and study guides were pretty clear. Tests were reasonable.

Professor Francis is both an accomplished researcher and an exceptional lecturer. The material is absolutely captivating and his presentation only serves to make it better. Some people will take issue with the exams, which do require a bit of memorisation. He explains the causes behind several interesting phenomena. I wish he taught more courses.

He doesn't explain things to the class or his own TA. The TA on many occasions tells students the wrong way to do homework, and the students are marked off regardless. He is cocky and is not much of a help if you need it. The worst prof I've had at Purdue.

Its a VERY interesting class and he sure does make you look foreward to something but you do have to pay attention and study. If you do the study guide as you go along through the lectures... trust me its MUCH easier. I think he is amazing for psy 200 but psy 201 is not his thing because he is too smart to teach math.
