I took her Microbiology BIOL145. Extremely organized class. Lecture is straight from PPT and she is very eager to help students succeed. Memorization intensive. Tests are very structured and you know exactly what you need to study beforehand. Work hard and you will do well.

Best biology professor at Pacific! She is extremely fair with her exams, there are absolutely no surprises because you just have to memorize everything that's on the PowerPoint or whatever notes she takes in class. She does some interactive teaching for some topics and it's really fun. If you can memorize well the class will be an easy A for you!

Joan made micro, a subject that requires massive amounts of time just memorizing, interesting. She has a ton of teaching experience and knows how to explain things in an engaging, interactive way. She makes herself available outside of class, and is easy to talk to. Tests are straight from ppt, but can be challenging. time studying = grade

Fantastic lecturer and makes Microbio very interesting to learn! Exams are solely based on memorization of the powerpoint slides and the assigned readings, but her tests are straightforward.

Joan is a great teacher. Her class is easy if you put in the time to do a lot of meticulous memorizing. Her exams are very straightforward, unlike those of Geoff's. She is a funny, fantastic lecturer, so you'll be able to understand the material in class well. Joan is very helpful and genuinely cares for her students. I really enjoyed this class.

Dr. Joan is a really nice teacher she cares about her students. If you're good at memorizing, you'll easily get an A, but it does take a lot of time. Time put in = Grade. I'm definitely an advocate for taking her!

i think 145 is microbio. i thought she was going to be as great as geoff. her lectures are boring. shes really quiet. her tests are really reasonable. if you could have your lecture notes on the test, you'd get 100% for sure. lots of material but super straightforward.

Joan is an excellent professor and actually cares about her students getting good grades. She told us she's not out to ruin our GPA's for whatever professional school we later apply to. With that said, expect a class that is still challenging but in no way overwhelming. The subject matter is also very interesting...Joan is highly recommended!

Very nice teacher. Fun to talk to and crack jokes with. Lectures are organized, and you can print them out as powerpoints beforehand so you have them right in front of you. Lectures are often short and we get out early. Labs are easy. Study hard for the tests because you should MEMORIZE everything. Do the extra credit she gives at the end.
