Dr. Hanson is a great Deutsch professor. He truly pushes you to your limit and makes you work within the language, which is much appreciated while learning it. Tests can be nerve racking, so I would certainly recommend reviewing what you learned in class often. Try not to skip or miss too often.

Dr. Hanson is an awesome professor. I was sad to not be able to take him again this year. His teaching methods demand actually learning the material, and he is very respectable. One of the best professors I have ever had and I am thankful for his teaching!

dr. hanson is a great professor!! he relies so heavily on vocal because that's how you build skill in a language. he will help anyone with anything! I'd love to be in the major to take another one of his classes, i learned a lot.

Dr. Hanson is great! His class is challenging, especially if you've never had German. He speaks it most of the time and moves fast. He's organized and knowledgeable; the entire semester is mapped out in the syllabus. He can become irritable easily, so as you pay attention, try and don't talk while he is teaching, he's nice and has a sense of humor.

It took Dr. Hanson a while to warm up to the class. He had zero patience at the beginning. He was intimidating at first and seemed to dislike everyone. Got better though. Requires you to memorize vocab/verb cases. Good professor. Text book and attendance required. His exams are difficult, be aware that the vocab quizs will show up on the exams.

Relies too much on voacbulary and conjugation. Every week we do at least one case exercise. I've never gotten one answer wrong on one of these. I realize I'm at a slightly higher level than the rest of the class, but still...

In class you will be constantly repeating the same three pages for a week. While he makes it easy to grasp the basics of german, his tests are almost impossible. He is really vague in his questions but wants a specific answer. Also if you don't want to be called on constantly that day, don't wear a low cut shirt.

Class is fairly easy, but moves at a quick pace. Speaks almost entirely in German, so you need to keep up. He calls on every several times, but keeps the class very fun and everyone laughs a lot. Many one-on-one practices with a partner. Book is exoensive, tests are hard unless you STUDY!!! One drawback is he expects you to learn as fast as he did.

A good professor! He's serious enough for you to know that he's serious about teaching but he's also funny, in his own way; he and the students share jokes and laugh pretty regularly. He does place a lot of emphasis on vocab but that's a no-brainer because vocab makes up a language, which is what you're there to learn. I enjoyed his class.

This class was taught at a much faster pace than what I had in high school, so it's easy to fall behind. He calls on everyone several times in one day, and teaches you more than 80% of the time in Deutsch. You rarely speak in English. You MUST have your insanely expensive book everyday, and plan on studying hard. Viel Glück!

Nice guy. He's the reason I enjoy german now. Very helpful...STUDY VOCAB AND GRAMMER. I hated german in high school, but Hanson is really clear when he explains things, so I plan on taking him for German 2.

I thought this class was ok but we needed more grades than just 4 tests and attendence, and when you do take him, STUDY VOCAB!! Also on his tests the grammer is entirely covered and make sure you know all types of grammer he went over in class.

good prof. doesn't seem too friendly, but study hard/do your homework and hopefully you'll never have to meet with him outside of class. buy the text! he loves to use it, especially the vocab lists. i thought he spent too much time on vocab, but he also gave me an excellent foundation in german grammar. he also has exam reviews - albeit weak ones.

He's a good guy and expects everyone to take his class as seriously as he does. He makes sure you know your stuff and really tests you. He's obsessed with vocabulary. He's not at all unfair. I never spoke a word of German in my life before his class and got an A. Just study and you'll be fine, especially vocab.

He was very easy in the beginning, but since I never had German before he just took off after the first chapter as if we were all fluent. He won't help you if he thinks you don't care for the course. Study the vocab, and make sure all your punctuation and GERMAN grammar and capitalization is correct, he's very anal, very hard, good luck.
