Unprofessional, I've had liberal professors who don't make a point of trying to pass out opinions, this man had a class created for him so he would be able to preach his views! Illogical arguments claiming to be logical, but what can you do?

Very "colleg-y." His class is an enormous performance. I still enjoyed it even though I didn't agree with him. Watch out- he weighted his written final more than he made it sound like he would.

Had high expectations for the course; these were not met. Students are successful in his class by regurgitating his (highly conservative) point of view. Made derogatory remarks about women and referred to me (a female) as "doll" during office hours.

Extremely unapproachable. Neocon and has no patience for opposing viewpoints, even intellectual ones. Additionally, mumbles incomprehensibly 90% of the time and refuses to clarify anything, even assignments, then criticizes students for not keeping up with readings. Avoid if possible.

Arkes is very intelligent, but at times hard to follow. Should stay up to date on readings to understand whats going on in class. Should always take his point of view when writing papers (impossible to do otherwise because he is impossible to disagree with since he can counter any argument)

Arkes is clearly intelligent and he has a patient and interesting lecture style. But he is clearly political. He uses the class to preach his neo-con perspective instead of using it to teach you about a topic from all viewpoints. It is impossible to make an A on his papers unless you rewrite his args word for word. Answers e-mails promptly.
