Haldun is a Gem from the poly days. The thing is the material is hard, go to lecture and participate. I Got A D and tbh it was cuz the material was dry and his exams aren't easy.

Cool guy, though he is kind of boring. His exams are open book but they're only easy enough if you understand the homework

Boring lecture. Like, imagine the most boring lecture you've ever attended. His lectures are worse. I don't agree with other reviews here about the materials being useless for CS majors, but oh man you're not going to learn anything in this class except how to copy past homework into the test.

He is by far the best professor I've had yet. He creates a unique environment that is more conducive to learning than most other classes. He knows the entirety of his subjects off the top of his head, and his exams aren't about rote memorization, but actually understanding the topic and the material provided throughout the course.

He's a very nice man, but the class is just him rattling off facts you could get from a 10 second glance at the texbook's instruction set. We do nothing productive (at least in lecture). The lectures are incredible wastes of time and I feel genuinely robbed of a low-level programming education. Absolutely no clue how he has such a good rating here.

Ask any competent CS student with some industry experience that isn't 25 years ago and you'll know about Haldun: his materials are obsolete and have nothing to do with the Computer Science major. It's a waste of a semester for CS students.

He's a pretty good teacher. Just talks a bit slowly. Really wants the students to know what's going on. But he's kinda boring.

Haldun is the closest living representation of the son of God. The man is a genius. He's too good to be teaching at Tandon. Should be a Professor at Harvard. Shall we take a break?

Haldun is a great guy and caring person. He know a lot about what he's teaching and he's generally easy to access if you have questions for him. I do admit that the lectures do get a bit boring. But if you go to class and pay attention though, you will definitely get a lot out of his course. It's a lot harder to pass without attending lecture.

Class is all pattern matching old problems. Stresses learning concepts but tests are about exact implementation. Takes off points for not being word-for-word with the answer key. Condescending towards students.

Comment:
He has an arbitrary grading scheme, your points lost are based on what he "feels you deserve". This arbitrary grading scheme involves his "optional attendance". He claims at the start that "attendance is optional", but then religiously takes attendance and takes off more points for the same mistake as someone else if you haven't shown up to class.

I took three courses with Haldun: digital logic, computer architecture 1 (undergrad), and computer architecture 2 (grad). If your career will have anything to do with computers, hardware or software, the fundamentals you'll learn from Haldun are invaluable. Pay attention in class and take good notes. Exams are open notes, open textbook.

He INISTS on you following him EXACTLY in the most tedious ways. His class stops being as much of a class on Computer Architecture as much as a class on how to jump through Haldun hoops for Haldun points. It made it really difficult to actually get anything out of his class

Nice guy,but the material is dry, if you get lost in the material he really doesn't go over old material. I took is digital logic class, I didnt really understand much but he saw i was trying and passed me. I wish i performed better but the past is past..

I really enjoyed the course and learned a whole lot about the low-level workings of a CPU. I truly believe that this might go in as one of my favorite courses in the entire program.

Make sure to write in complete sentences for your responses. Help him find Ana. He lives in the school so he is always accessible. Be sure to ask him about his dirty bits! You can trust me, this is my 6th semester taking his class.

Haldun teaches like a typical 20-century professor - so well organized that the classes become dull. You can tell he knows the material perfectly well. HOWEVER, taking CompOrg with him didn't mean taking CompOrg, but taking "Haldun's CompOrg". He INSISTS on following the stuff he says EXACTLY. Didn't like it, at all, though I have respect for him.

Haldun is bae. Best Prof I've ever taken. Definitely try to get the past exams from friends, it'll help. Everything graded is open book/open note so if you take good notes you're golden. Hilarious, sassy, witty professor. Digital logic is essential to take before Comp. Arch

Really great professor who wants every student to do his/her best. All tests are open book with several homework assignments done in a group. Go to class because he wants the problems done the way shown in class, which is shown in none of the textbooks. Pay attention and you'll learn a lot about both the material and the industry.

Probably one of the nicest professors out there. Material can be dry at times but he makes it easy to understand and is always eager to answer questions. His tests are open book and usually contain 3-4 questions. The questions can still be a little tricky but he grades leniently.
