Comment:
Professor Jagpal is brilliant, and exhausting. He will be critical of the content you provide (both participation and graded assignments), but he rewards effort. He will lecture for two or three hours, but I found it interesting. I had no knowledge of marketing coming into the class, and I appreciated his seemingly novel take on it.

This class is awkward and hard to follow. He has his own rogue opinions about marketing and teaches it from an econ/finance perspective. You basically have to disregard everything you know about marketing, econd and finance and just answer his questions the way he wants you do. Hard to follow his lectures. Heavy case based with group presentations

It took a few sessions to get get a grasp on his teaching methods. In the beginning I found him tough to hearunderstand. He lightens up as class progresses. Readpresent alot of cases (says 1, but you end up doing all). Grade is based on participation & exam; fair grader. His book is used and it's well written & worth reading to prep for class.

All topics discussed were extremely detailed & unorganized, covering far too much than what should be expected of students immediately entering the MBA program. I would not recommend Jagpal for students starting their core MBA classes. This nontraditional prof does not give graded work throughout the semester: participation & a final only.

The guy is a pioneer in marketing! He writes his own material and has an impressive background. His exams are grueling. They're all open ended, and if you don't put down exactly what he wants he'll dock you. He is alright with grading. He won't fail you but if you are able to get an A in his class, give yourself a pat on the back.

Comment:
Incredibly arrogant and not helpful. He is right and everyone else is wrong. His point of view is contrarian and somehow common sense, but highly impractical in real world, which is a place Jagpal infrequently visits. Rutgers needs a pure marketing class, this is not a marketing class at all - it's a management simulation class.

He is a genius. Hi class can be boring for some because, his strategy and counter strategy is based on numbers and is a mix of economics and finance. The best prof I had so far in MBA!! hands down !!

Great learning experience. Has very unconventional ideas and not mainstream marketing. Good course to understand how to analyze a case from all perspectives including finance and micro-economics. He mixes his cases quite well and his case solutions are intriguing, though may not be practical. Also, clarifies some basic concepts of micro and mktg.

He starts the class by asking simple questions about marketing/companies and drives the marketing concept from that simple statement. One of the best classes I've taken so far. Highlight of the course is student's presentations on cases and professor's solution. So it is very hard to forget the case - I am a mba student;

Smart, teaches economics and finance more than marketing----but that's what marketing really is. READ everything before class and you'll do fine. More a class in strategic management actually than marketing.

Arrogant. Be prepared for a purely academic approach to Marketing. No practical application from a prof with no real marketing experience outside of academia

Very smart, arrogant. Counter intuitive point of view. Buy his book or Economics of Strategy not Kotler. Attack his theories and learn to be humiliated. Very approachable but has draconian rules about homework/presentations. Don't piss him off and don't talk about things you don't understand. Don't expect solutions to cases and enjoy the ride.

Prof. Jalpal, knows his Marketing stuff, but he can't teach an introductory class. Now if your at advanced marketing level than he's your man. I can't support prof. that says, i don't get paid to provide solution to cases he uses in the class, and so won't handout his solutions. Also, he has the class do 3 group presentations on same case/day

Prof. Jagpal is very brilliant. This class gives you very good understanding of Marketing. Use his book and you will get most out of the teaching. Not an easy class and you need to work with him. DonĂ¢€™t be intimidated to talk. He encourages healthy discussions. He is one of the best professors Rutgers has.

The professor is very very smart. He teaches well and keeps the attention of class going with his self deprecating humor. The only problem is that his teachings are not easily understandable and most of the times counter intuitive. The class is supposed to be an introductory class to marketing, but there is nothing introductory about it.

A class that provokes one to really think. Unfortunately many do not want to exercise their brains and as a result the talent of such a man is wasted on such people. RBS lacks good profs. He is one of the few great ones we have. If you want to open your mind and learn, take him.
