Hilary Hoynes is hilarious. The class is not easy by any means, but the Aplia online homework is helpful and gives you a lot of practice. Tests are a little hard since there's a lot to do within the time period. Her lectures are engaging though, and she's very personable.

Sadly, she is leaving Davis. One of the better profs I've had the pleasure of learning from. Her exams were somewhat tough as Aplia only taught the basics. She has easy questions, but tosses in very difficult questions to see which students can actually apply what they've learned. No curve, but she adds points. Such a shame to see her leave.

Loved her class! She was really engaging (and sometimes funny) during lecture. helpful during office hours too. Aplia hw boosts your grade a lot. Multiple choice on tests does hurt if you miss a few. Overall recommended. her class made me want to major in econ.

Great Teacher! Decided to major in Econ after this class. She is very clear and explains everything thoroughly. Her tests were very reasonable and she curves everything generously. Take this class!!

First midterm was misleading, was way harder than the practice exam she said it would be similar to. But the second midterm and final was reasonable if you study. Missing a few MC can really hurt your score. Nothing is easy so dont underestimate the class. Shes nice with curves if the majority of the class do poorly.

Aplia. Attendance isnt mandatory, I highly recommend it. Her lectures werent the most interesting but 90% of the time I was able to pay attention and really get it. Most examples made sense. She is really good about answering questions. Tests can be tricky; few multiple choice questions that are worth a lot, missing a few really hurts your grade.

Excellent prof! I suck in Econ in high school but can get an A is her class so easy! Go to her lectures and take notes, then you will pass definitely. Go to discussion as well, TA will tell u how to do hw! Use sample exams for tests. I use textbooks for hw only. Curves up to C+ (75%). work hard ans u will get A

You gotta love a teacher that loves what she's teaching. If you do the required homework, there is definitely no way you can't pull AT LEAST a "B" in her class. The few concepts that were difficult in the book (optional) were easily explained by her. Overall easy class and wonderful teacher.

Prof. Hoynes is a terrific lecturer, and I highly recommend her for any Economics class. She has a firm command of the material, and obviously enjoys what she does. Tests aren't difficult if you take notes and study, and the curve can be generous (she just adds points to your score). Aplia hwks are required, and are req'd for test prep. Great prof!

Prof was very interested in subject, and tried her best to make it seem interesting. attending lecture definitely mandatory if you want to pass. midterms not very easy, reading text would probably help a bit. random bits of humor made class not too bad

Lectures are boring. Used powerpoint and it was hard to stay awake. Professor is bland the way she explains graphs etc. Tests were good as long as you understand each chapter in time. Sample midterms and final given. T.A. was horrible due to ESL.

I found this class and professor to be unbearably boring. Lectures were dry and she didn't always know what she was talking about/messed up on examples a lot (2007). Discussion sections were a joke, a total of maybe 3 people would show up. Made me never want to attend class ever, which obviously impacted my grade.

Amazing professor. I went into the class HATING economics and left considering minoring in it. The lectures can be dry, and the tests weren't a breeze, but the reason why Hoynes shines is due to her willingness to understand and answer questions in class. She's really friendly, open, funny, and makes the class comfortable.

A little dry, but she tries. GO TO CLASS. First midterm, I attended every lecture, did NOT study, got an A. Second midterm, I skipped only TWO lectures, studied my ass off, FLUNKED. She generally doesn't curve because people do well. The book only helped me when I skipped class and is useful for aplia. Do well on homework, it gives you that boost!

Her lectures are really organized and she explains a lot of stuff. She has some powerpoint slides, but most of the lecture will be graphs and equations she writes on the white board. She puts together a packet of old midterms with answers that I found a bit more useful than the textbook itself. Text isn't so hard of a read. Would recommend.

Never went to class, few times i did she had no idea what she was talking about. Read the tetbook instead of class and you will know everything you need. Midterms and final were not bad, MC and short answer. Homework assignments are online and get turned in online. Take this class, if you hate actually going to class.
